Bookmaking at Random House Children’s Books seeks an organized and detail-oriented Production Assistant to join our team. In this role, you will support the Vice President, Executive Director of Production, and the rest of the production department. The production department for Random House Children’s Books is filled with talented individuals who are passionate about making high-quality books. This role reports to the V.P., Executive Director of Production, who leads the team handling production for all the imprints within Random House Children’s Books, including Anne Schwartz Books, Bright Matter Books, Crown, Delacorte, Doubleday, Dragonfly, Ember, Golden Books, Joy Revolution, Knopf, Labyrinth Road, Laurel Leaf, Make Me a World, Random House, Random House Graphic, Random House Studio, Rodale, The Princeton Review, and Yearling. Many beloved books you may remember from childhood, such as the Berenstain Bears and Junie B. Jones, and new favorites, such as the Sweet Valley Twins graphic novels and the One of Us Is Lying series, are handled by our team. The ideal Production Assistant is day-one ready to be part of a busy and collaborative group. You'll work closely with many colleagues in other departments within the division, especially Editorial, Managing Editorial, Art/Design, and Subsidiary Rights. The role is ideal for someone who is highly organized, can handle multiple tasks at one time in a deadline-driven environment, and is interested in developing one’s skills in the craft of bookmaking. The position of Production Assistant at Random House Children’s Books is a hybrid position with in-office responsibilities, which include but are not limited to entering books into the divisional library, managing office supplies, and in-office training and meetings. We will consider candidates who can work from a commutable distance to our offices at 1745 Broadway, which includes the tri-state area (NJ, CT, & PA). • Providing general administrative support to the V.P., Executive Director of Production, and department, such as arranging meetings, ordering office supplies, and maintaining department Outlook calendar
• Handling requests for duplicate files and maintaining an Excel grid to track all requests
• Logging and tracking P&L requests for the department via an Excel grid
• Handling special projects as assigned, such as extracting data from SAP into Excel reports, creating pivot tables, and manipulating data
• Organizing and participating in bi-monthly production staff meetings
• Coordinating the annual production of leatherbound editions of select titles
• Assisting department members with archiving of final book files
The Essentials:
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Strong organizational skills and attention to detail
• Ability to prioritize and multitask while keeping track of multiple ongoing projects and daily duties
• Ability to work well in a deadline-oriented environment and handle changing priorities with ease
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook
• Interest or knowledge/experience in data management is a plus
• Familiarity with Adobe Creative Suite and SAP is a plus
The salary for this position is $48,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results.
