Biotechnology Technician
Salary or Pay Range: $26.52 - $31.64 /hourly (Budgeted Salary Range: Initial placement will be between $26.52 - $28.91/Hour, commensurate with educational background and relevant working experience)
Under general supervision, in both a BSL2 and BSL3 facility, perform the daily functions of a high throughput diagnostic laboratory including performance of nucleic-acid based detection using real time PCR and Standard PCR technology, processing samples for extraction of DNA and RNA from clinical samples, and maintaining documentation records in accordance with standard operating procedures. This is not a research position. The position is located in a diagnostic laboratory where quality control and assurance as well as meticulous working habits are essential.
Qualifications
Minimum Qualifications - For full consideration, applicants are encouraged to upload license and/or certification if required of the position
• No minimum education required.
• Experience using computer skills to efficiently perform data entry, retrieval and to conduct computer searches in GenBank or similar databases.
• Knowledge of diagnostic lab quality control procedures and standards with associated skills to understand and follow detailed technical protocols, published procedures and methods, and equipment operations manuals.
• Skills to perform veterinary diagnostic biotechnology methods, including electrophoresis, standard and real-time PCR, nucleic acid sequence analysis, and DNA and RNA extraction in a high throughput environment.
• Knowledge and understanding of virology, Molecular Biology, genetics, and Immunology sufficient to understand, interpret and follow published or documented techniques and procedures.
• Skills in mathematics and chemistry to perform calculations and prepare reagents, buffers, and dilutions.
• Skills to manage, store, and track samples and reagents in an efficient and accurate manner, including skills to use methods of containment, decontamination and disposal of infectious and bio hazardous materials.

• Organizational skills to set priorities and meet deadlines.
• Skills to perform cost effective ordering and/or use of laboratory and office supplies and equipment.
• Skills to organize and prioritize individual workload under guidance of supervisor.
