Job Description Summary

The purpose of this position is to serve as Biostatistician for the Biostatistics Analysis Center (BAC) and to provide high-level biostatistical and epidemiological consulting services to the University's biomedical research community (and externally, to a lesser extent).


The successful applicant will demonstrate a strong interest in working collaboratively with diverse teams of investigators including students, faculty, and staff to provide accurate, innovative solutions to research objectives. This will encompass projects across a wide array of subject areas, and contributing to every aspect of the research, from study design to manuscript co-creation. Analyses frequently will involve efficient coding and modeling of the highly complex “Big Data” projects (records with millions of records, such as Medicare data). The Biostatistician will contribute to technical writing (including creating Data and Safety Monitoring Board [DSMB] reports), write methodology sections, create tables, and generate high-level graphical outputs for publication. Lastly, the Biostatistician will be asked to lead ongoing trainings to teach R coding/modeling/analysis to the various members of the BAC team that do not yet have this expertise.





Job Description


Job Responsibilities



+ Design, develop, test implement and document statistical programming in high-level software packages.


+ Conducts appropriate statistical analyses, including interpretation, presentation and explanation of statistical techniques used, assumptions made, and generalization of results.


+ Conduct big data analysis projects (such as Medicare data)/Highly-complex, maximally-efficient modeling of such.


+ Development/designing new statistical analysis plans to align with the needs of a given project support research investigations.


+ Develop, document, and maintain analytical data files, with variables derived from primary databases, suitably structured for statistical analyses.


+ Manage statistical activities with research project managers.


+ Write and edit statistical methods sections of manuscripts and abstracts for presentations and publications.


+ Document methods and results through memoranda and reports communicating findings to project team members.


+ Read and review appropriate biomedical and clinical research literature necessary for effective collaboration


+ Other duties and responsibilities as assigned





Qualifications


Master's degree in biostatistics, statistics, or related quantitative field and 3 to 5 years of experience or equivalent combination of education and experience is required.



+ Substantial experience in performing data analysis on complex data sets including survival analysis, longitudinal analysis, and all standard types of regression is preferred


+ Proficiency in programming languages for appropriate for large-scale data (e.g., SAS, SQL, R and/or Python) is required


+ Adept at cross-disciplinary collaboration


+ Ability to work independently and apply critical thinking and sound judgment


+ Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to communicate effectively with others


+ Ability to multi-task and adjust priorities to meet changing deadlines, as necessary
