Position Overview:
The Biomedical Equipment Technician (BMET) is responsible for the maintenance, calibration, and repair of a wide range of medical devices used in healthcare settings. This role ensures that all biomedical equipment operates safely, efficiently, and reliably to support high-quality patient care.
Key Responsibilities:
Equipment Maintenance and Repair:
- Perform routine maintenance, inspections, and repairs on medical devices, including but not limited to, diagnostic imaging equipment, patient monitors, infusion pumps, ventilators, and laboratory instruments.
- Troubleshoot equipment malfunctions to diagnose and rectify issues promptly.
- Conduct calibration of medical devices to ensure accuracy and compliance with manufacturer specifications and regulatory standards.
Documentation and Reporting:
- Maintain accurate records of maintenance, repairs, and calibrations performed on equipment.
- Document all work activities and findings in the equipment management database.
- Generate and submit reports on equipment performance, safety checks, and inventory status.
Compliance and Safety:
- Adhere to all safety protocols and regulatory requirements, including those set by The Joint Commission, FDA, and other relevant bodies.
- Ensure that all equipment meets the required safety standards and is safe for use by healthcare professionals and patients.
- Participate in safety training and stay updated on best practices in biomedical engineering.
Support and Training:
- Provide technical support and guidance to clinical staff on the proper use and maintenance of medical equipment.
- Conduct training sessions for healthcare personnel on equipment operation and safety procedures.
- Collaborate with the clinical and technical teams to address any equipment-related issues or concerns.
Inventory Management:
- Assist in managing the inventory of biomedical equipment, including tracking equipment status, availability, and location.
- Recommend the purchase of new equipment or replacement parts based on assessments of current equipment conditions and needs.
Qualifications:
- Education: Associate's degree in Biomedical Engineering Technology, Electronics, or a related field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience: Minimum of 2 years of experience in the maintenance and repair of biomedical equipment in a healthcare setting.
- Certification: Certification as a Biomedical Equipment Technician (CBET) by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) is preferred.
- Skills:
- Strong technical and troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of medical device operation, maintenance, and repair procedures.
- Familiarity with regulatory standards and safety protocols.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Proficiency in using computerized maintenance management systems (CMMS) and other relevant software.
