The Biomedical Technician I is under the direct supervision of the Medical Equipment and Quality Assurance Manager and is responsible for troubleshooting, repairing, maintaining, installing, testing, and calibrating basic clinical, laboratory, and medical research equipment.
Responsibilities
- Troubleshoot, diagnose and repair electronic, electromechanical, pneumatic and hydraulic device malfunctions to the system, device, assembly or component level as needed to best meet the clinical and financial needs of the customer.
- Repair or replace defective patient cables, probes or other accessories.
- Perform preventative maintenance by cleaning, lubricating, adjusting, calibrating, verifying performance and electrical safety testing.
- Document equipment inspections, repairs and failures in database.
- Confer with faculty, staff, health care providers, laboratory staff, vendors and management to resolve equipment problems.
- Provide technical assistance and instruction on equipment operation and maintenance to clinical and laboratory personnel.
- Assist Senior BMETs in performance of their duties.
- May perform repairs on life support equipment under emergent conditions.
- Drive Fred Hutch owned vehicles to service equipment at community sites.
- Evaluate, make recommendations, and approve devices for use on human subjects.
- Other related duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required for this job:
- An Associates' Degree in Biomedical Technology -OR- Equivalent education and experience -OR- Certification by the Association for the Advancement of Medical Instrumentation (AAMI) as a candidate.
- One year of relevant experience maintaining and repairing biomedical equipment.
- Basic troubleshooting skills.
- Knowledge of specialized test equipment such as electrical safety analyzers, patient simulators, and device specific test instruments.
- Ability to use basic hand and power tools.
- Telephone operation and courtesy skills.
- Customer service skills.
- Written and verbal communication skills.
Preferred for this job:
- An Associates' Degree in Biomedical Technology
- One year of experience in a hospital or outpatient clinical engineering environment.
- Knowledge of software applications including manufacturer's service tools, computerized maintenance management systems, databases, dashboards, spreadsheets, and other metrics-based monitoring systems including asset management systems.

The hourly pay range for this position is from $29.76 to $42.37 and pay offered will be based on experience and qualifications.
