About the Job
We are looking for a bioinformatics scientist to create quantitative and incisive analyses of DNA sequence attributes and NGS data. The role will include opportunities to develop analyses ranging from early-stage research experiments to production pipelines and databases. The scientist will work closely with molecular biologists as well as the scientific computing team.

Essential Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement AI/ML algorithms and statistical models to advance Elegen’s novel synthetic DNA production platform.
- Build, optimize, and maintain various pipelines for analysis, data management, and data visualization.
- Provide computational support and AI/ML-based data insights to guide the molecular biology and engineering teams on experimental design and analysis.
- Design and build front-end sequence analysis interfaces for internal use.
- Help design and maintain databases and server networks for internal and external applications.
Essential Qualifications and Experience:
- Ph.D. in bioinformatics, computational biology, genomics or a related field or M.S computer/data science with 2+ years of biotech industry experience or B.S. in computer/data science with 4+ years of biotech industry experience.
- Experience with development of AI/ML methods for biological applications.
- Demonstrated expertise with various NGS systems, data analysis, interpretation, and troubleshooting.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate and communicate effectively with bench science teams.
- Knowledge of database architecture, querying (SQL), and management.
- Familiar with software development best practices, including version control using GitHub, testing and tracking (Jira), continuous integration and deployment.
- Proficiency in Python and Rust, with experience in AI/ML frameworks (such as TensorFlow, PyTorch), and AWS services for deploying AI/ML models.
Preferred Qualifications and Experience:
- Familiarity with molecular biology reactions and methods.
- Familiarity with gene synthesis methods.
Salary and Benefits:
The annual base salary compensation for this role, if based in California is: $115,000 - $150,000. Compensation may be different in other locations. Final compensation also includes bonus, equity and benefits. Specific offer packages are determined by multiple factors, including candidate skill, experience, expertise, and location.
