Key Responsibilities
- BIM Data Specialist plays a vital role within the Virtual Design and Construction (VDC) team, responsible for managing and organizing Building Information Modeling (BIM) data and supporting various BIM and VDC initiatives.
- This role will focus on maintaining and optimizing database ITM files, Revit Families and Files, and pushing critical BIM data to field and operational teams.
- The BIM Data Specialist will play a key role in ensuring the smooth flow of data and technology between VDC and Field Operations and Project Management teams, facilitating a more efficient and data-driven construction process.
- BIM Data Management: Maintain and update the organization's BIM data repositories, including database ITM files and Revit Families and files, ensuring data consistency and accessibility. Establish and enforce data management best practices and standards within the organization. Perform regular audits of the master database to ensure files are current with company product information, making necessary updates. Host (monthly) meetings with the BIM Department Manager and VDC Project Managers to discuss progress in changes and capture feedback as data and deliverables evolve. Establish and maintain a running log of requests for ITM, RFA, Templates, and deliverables adjustments. Work closely with project teams to identify, catalog, and organize Revit Families and database ITM files, ensuring they are easily searchable and usable. Ensure database synchronization is pushed out to all VDC teams when changes are made. Collaborate with the IT department to troubleshoot and resolve issues related to BIM data management systems and software. Review new releases of Revit, Evolve, Msuite, and other VDC software to ensure compatibility, advising BIM/VDC Department Manager of problems, impacts, or when team-wide releases can be conducted. Host (quarterly) meetings with B&I key stakeholders, VDC power users, and End-users to capture feedback, flush out needs, and gain insight on improving processes or leveraging more data, sharing suggestions with the BIM/VDC Manager and other Department Managers. Remain current and up to date with industry trends and new software, tools, add-ins, and other means of productivity gains to be explored by B&I stakeholders.
- Revit Project Setup: Set up Revit projects for all regions and ensure the proper services, families, and required files get integrated into the projects. Collaborate with VDC PMs and project teams to understand their specific project requirements and configure Revit accordingly. Develop and maintain project setup templates to standardize the setup process and streamline project initiation. Conduct regular reviews of project setups to identify areas for improvement and implement necessary changes. Provide training and support to project teams on best practices for Revit project setup and management. Work with VDC PMs and other stakeholders to advise and implement best practices with the entire B&I scope, input, and deliverables in mind. This may include hosting means and methods, filesharing externally, use of sub-contractors, 3D laser scan files, Trimble exports, Assemble exports, Trimble Connect AR, and other technologies. Work with VDC PM to review and transfer software licenses, assign project team access, and advise BIM/VDC and IT Manager of potential needs.
- Revit Family Standardization and Enhancement: Develop and implement Revit family standards and guidelines to ensure consistency and quality across all projects. Review existing Revit Families, identify areas for improvement, and update them to meet current standards. Collaborate with project teams to identify and develop new Revit Family requirements to meet project needs. Maintain a library of standardized Revit Families and ensure they are easily accessible to all project teams. Provide training and support to project teams on the proper use and management of Revit Families.
- Schedule and Report Enhancements: Collaborate with VDC trade teams to develop and enhance schedules and reports that facilitate data transfer and communication with field and operation teams. Utilize BIM data to develop accurate and comprehensive project schedules that integrate with other project management systems. Develop custom reports using BIM data to provide insights into project progress, resource allocation, and potential risks. Implement and maintain automated reporting processes to ensure field and operational teams can access real-time data. Regularly review and refine scheduling and reporting processes to improve efficiency and accuracy.
- Trimble Points and Scanner Data Management: Serve as the conduit for pushing Trimble Points to field teams and managing incoming Trimble Scanner data and as-built points for VDC team use. Coordinate with field teams for data capture during site visits and project setup. Assisting in developing and maintaining standards and procedures for collecting, processing, and integrating Trimble Points and Scanner data into BIM models. Provide training and support to field teams on using Trimble Points and Scanner data for construction layout and verification. Collaborate with software vendors to explore new tools and technologies for Trimble Points and Scanner data management.
- Technology and Software Support: Collaborate with VDC Managers and the Operations (OPS) team to help leverage existing software for data visualization and enhancement. Explore and implement new ways to manipulate BIM data from the VDC/BIM team. Support VDC teams in adopting and adapting to new technologies and software that align with current and future BIM data needs and direction. Develop and deliver training programs to educate VDC teams on using new technologies and software. Stay up-to-date with industry trends and advancements in BIM software and technology, making recommendations for their adoption within the organization.
Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Architecture, Engineering, Construction Management, or appropriate Revit and Database experience.
- Minimum of 5 years of experience working with Revit and Database parameters.
- Strong proficiency in BIM software, including Autodesk Revit and Trimble applications.
- Advanced understanding of Revit parameters, data deliverables, python, and Autodesk Cloud.
- Familiarity with data management and ITM file organization.
- Computer-based and interpersonal problem-solving skills.
- Solution-based thinking skills capable of taking various department interactions into consideration with meticulous attention to detail.
- Knowledge of construction and project management processes is a plus.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to problem-solve, prioritize tasks, and adapt to changing project requirements in a fast-paced environment.
- Proficiency in Word, Excel, and Database planning.
- Comply with all B&I safety procedures.
- Drug test, background check and a clean driving record are pre-employment requirements.
- Must be able to see well (either naturally or with correction); use hands, fingers, arms and legs fully; lift up to 20 lbs.
