CBO Insurance Billing Clerk
Job Description
PRIMARY FUNCTION
The Insurance and Billing Clerk is a non-licensed worker who has completed an on-the-job training program. The primary function of the Insurance/Billing Clerk is to be responsible for all insurance billing and collection of patient accounts.
RESPONSIBLE FOR
Performing general billing and collection duties on all assigned accounts.
SPECIAL DEMANDS
Must be able to accept responsibility and respect authority. Must demonstrate good judgment and common sense. Must be willing to work under pressure. Must be able to accept constructive criticism. Must be able to hold in confidence medical records of all patients. Must be able to work with individuals of all ages.
QUALIFICATIONS
EDUCATION: Must have completed the twelfth grade level of school.
EXPERIENCE: Medical background or previous insurance billing desired.
WORK PERFORMED
1. Verifying all new patients’ data correctly entered into software system, insurance authorization/verification done by the clinic.
2. Processing and filing all insurance claims.
3. Collection of all accounts receivable assigned to that position.
4. Follow-up on all insurance correspondence and unpaid insurance claims.
5. Notify supervisor of any problem accounts, CPT codes being denied by specific insurance companies, continued error in charges from therapists and any other hindrance to their productivity or collection of A/R.
6. Generation of patient statements and collection letter.
7. Processing of account for collections or pursing in small claims court.
8. End of the month report generation and list of all accounts not worked give to supervisor.
9. Any other duties as assigned by the CBO Manager or Director of Reimbursement.

SOURCE OF WORKERS: Recruited individuals with clerical background on aptitude.
PROMOTION: CBO Manager.
SUPERVISED BY: CBO Manager and Director of Reimbursement.
