About the Job
Primary Purpose:
Provide administrative support services to the English as a second language (ESL)/bilingual functional area of the district. Serve as an interpreter throughout the district in a variety of settings and meetings. Support may also include, but not limited to, interpreting for school officials and parents, translating written documents, creating written documents, and providing language support to students.
Qualifications:
Education/Certification:
High school diploma or GED
40 college hours preferred, but not required
Valid Texas driver’s license
Special Knowledge/Skills:
Fluent in the designated foreign language (Spanish)
Ability to follow written and verbal instructions
Knowledge, or ability to learn, various aspects of the ESL/bilingual program
Ability to travel throughout the district
Good verbal command of the English and Spanish languages
Good written command of the English and Spanish languages
Ability to work in a multi-cultural environment
Ability to communicate effectively with bilingual parents and students
Strong organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills

Major Responsibilities and Duties:
Student and Community Support
- Assist teachers, parents, and office staff by interpreting and translating communication between the school and home.
- Provide support during conferences and other meetings.
- Attend home visits as required and provide interpretation and translation as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Policy, Reports, and Law
- Assist with the enrollment and withdrawal of students from the school district when necessary.
- Compile, maintain, and file all reports, records, and other documents required.
- Answer telephone and perform routing office duties.
Other
- Comply with policies and regulations established by federal and state law, State Board of Education rule, and board policy. Comply with all district and campus routines and regulations.

Tools/Equipment Used: Standard office equipment including personal computer and peripherals; district vehicle

Lifting: Occasional light lifting and carrying (less than 15 pounds)
