Due to the current COVID situation, all clerical testing has been suspended for KAEOP applicants. Level testing will now only be done after the initial interviews for the finalists only. This means all applicants will be screened for interviews without passing the clerical testing for the position. Once interviewed, if you are a finalist, you will required to pass the clerical test for the position you are being considered for.
Criteria for Initial Placement on the Schedule per Collective Bargaining Agreement: Experience credit for regular employees shall only be allowed for prior experience in a K-12 educational unit to the extent required by RCW 28A.400.300 as amended.
LOCATION: Daniel is an elementary school of approximately 540 students and 80 staff. Daniel opened in 1992 and has become more and more diverse each year. Located on East Hill Kent, Daniel Elementary serves approximately twenty apartment complexes. Staff take pride in serving our diverse population. Over 50% of the Daniel students are English Language Learners, including several refugee students, and over 70% of our students qualify for free/reduced lunch.
Daniel teachers participate in Professional Learning Communities to engage in discussions centered on instructional improvement in order to meet our goal of eliminating the achievement gap. Our staff work collaboratively to support students and are implementing the Positive Behavior Intervention Supports by adopting school-wide expectations for students and adults. Our students support one another through peer tutoring and cross-grade buddy programs. Parent Engagement efforts have increased parent involvement via the Watch D.O.G.S. program, parent nights and the newly formed Parent Teacher Student Association.

ADDITIONAL INFORMATION: This 9 month position is part of the KAEOP bargaining unit.
- Provide health room services in accordance with established district procedures; administers first aid to ill or injured students when appropriate. Attend to ill or injured students and determine what course of action should be taken.
- Administers medication in accordance with district procedures and keeps accurate weekly counts of medication.
- Updates and maintains student health records using computerized applications, such as an automated student information system as well as word processing and spreadsheet applications; maintains hard copy files, as needed.
- Types correspondence and processes a variety of forms, including immunization and out of compliance forms.
- Makes appropriate emergency communications, including follow-up reports; documents health room activities on Health Room Registry, maintains student health records; hearing, vision, scoliosis and lice checks of students.
- Maintains log of all students utilizing health room services; dispense medications according to written district policy
- Assists with screening programs such as vision, dental, and scoliosis;
- Maintains confidentiality with regard to district-related records and matters and other duties and responsibilities as may be assigned.
- Provides clerical support, including typing and/or word processing, graphics, data entry, file maintenance, materials organization and duplication, ordering supplies, health information recording, and records control.
- Provides for a friendly, open, and safe atmosphere in the secretarial office and school reception area.
- Maintains a high degree of confidentiality with regard to all district-related matters and records.
- Provides assistance to other staff, as needed.
- Serves as member of the building support team; performs related duties consistent with the scope and intent of the position as assigned.
- High school diploma/GED or equivalent educational experience, required. Additional related training desirable; or any combination of experience and training which provides the knowledge, skills and ability required to perform the work.
- Completion of Kent School District’s clerical testing at the administrative assistant II (B) level, with a score of 70% or higher. Clerical testing of at least administrative assistant level II (B), with a score of 70% or higher, must be on file before the closing date.
- Valid first aid, CPR card, Automated External Defibrillator (AED) training and knowledge of modern emergency health-care procedures required for school positions. (Training provided by KSD, if needed)
- Must be willing to administer medication to students.
- Must have good customer service skills and the ability to communicate effectively.
- Ability to exhibit multicultural and ethnic understanding and sensitivity with the ability to communicate effectively with all cultural groups in the school community.
- Experience working with a diverse student population and the specific school demographics.
- Experience working with secondary students.
- Ability to keep timely, accurate, and efficient records, including preparation of reports from student records.
- Must be flexible and willing to learn new health care procedures.
- Ability to operate modern office machines, including office copier, computer, FAX, and calculator.
- Ability to learn new operations, procedures, processes, and use of new equipment.
- Able to maintain open communication with all office staff members, students, parents and the general public.
- Ability to organize, set priorities, and work effectively under pressure.
- Ability to exercise sound independent judgment, including appropriate handling of confidential matters.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with students, staff, parents, and the general public.
