Purpose and Impact:
Behavioral Health Advisors are responsible for providing expertise in behavioral health and trauma informed care that best meets the client’s specific healthcare needs. The hired individual is expected to also provide education, therapy, and counseling of clients and their families in the areas of mental health and mental health diagnosis. They must be able to take independent action; exercise discretion, and take initiative, clinical judgement, and follow-through by interpreting and explaining complex program and services information to participants. Ensures that all clients comply with the rules and regulations of the SASIC program through coordination of services throughout service matrix and aids staff in the preparation of individuals for self-sufficiency.
Essential Functions:
- Responsible for developing health related initiatives and projects that provide clients with optimal health services.
- Responsible for assisting individuals (where applicable) in the management of the symptoms of their mental illness and establishing their own recovery plan.
- Responsible for conducting clinical intake assessment and provide ongoing clinical and crisis interventions for clients.
- Participates in the development and implementation of each client’s Individual and Self-Sufficiency Wellness Plan.
- Conduct weekly individual counseling sessions and weekly group counseling sessions with clients.
- Assists individuals in the development of appropriate skill building necessary for living independently in the community.
- Utilizes community resources to promote community integration, independence, and interdependence.
- Plays a prominent role in helping members understand their insurance benefits while following HIPAA regulations.
- Assists in the outreach and education efforts to health partners, including the promotion of preventative healthcare within refugee communities.
- Ability to complete all annual training or additional training as directed.
- Ability to telework upon program needs.
- Ensures the delivery of health information, using culturally appropriate terms and concepts.
- Ability to track and report on the client’s progress with various interventions, as applicable.
- Other duties as assigned.
Other Functions:
- Ensures that health coaching and case management services are proactive, innovative, and engaging from the client perspective.
- Ensures that team members are clinically competent and adequately trained in evidence-based practices and other engagement techniques in order to achieve team engagement and clinical targets/metrics.
- Maintains patient confidentiality, and confidentiality of medical records, in compliance with the Privacy Act and HIPAA regulations in all work activities.
Physical Requirements:
- Must be able to drive, have a valid Florida Driver’s License and maintain a clean driving record
- Must be able to work flexible and long hours
- Must be able to work in a fast-paced environment
Education:
Master’s degree in social work with clinical experience in the program, or Master’s degree in psychology, sociology, or other relevant behavioral science in which direct clinical experience is a program requirement. Must be licensed or eligible for licensure.
Experience:
Minimum of 2-4 years of experience relevant to the position and working with vulnerable, immigrant or migrant populations.
Skills:
- Excellent organizational and time management skills
- Ability to collaborate with others, including case management staff, refugee services team members, and supervisors
- Ability to practice cultural sensitivity and work effectively with diverse populations
- Ability to be flexible with working hours and on-call responsibilities
- Excellent writing skills
- Computer skills sufficient to perform essential functions (using the ORR system, Microsoft Office, and any internal case management software)
- Able to speak, read, and write English and a second language fluently according to contractual needs.
Other:
- Must demonstrate sensitivity to our service population’s cultural and socioeconomic characteristics and needs.
