Job Description
The Behavior Therapist at Autism Matters is responsible for providing direct, hands-on behavior therapy to children with autism spectrum disorder (ASD). This involves utilizing Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) and Verbal Behavior Therapy (VBT) techniques across intensive teaching sessions and natural learning environments. The Behavior Therapist delivers individualized instruction, modeling, and guidance to help clients develop essential skills. Additionally, the Behavior Therapist ensures a high-quality, organized therapy setting to support client progress and collaborates with the clinical team to monitor outcomes and adjust interventions as needed. Autism Matters provides entry level and ongoing training opportunities to ensure our Behavior Therapists are at the forefront of evidence-based ABA practices. The overarching goal is for the Behavior Therapist to implement ABA and VBT methods that empower children with ASD to achieve meaningful outcomes.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- Great fit for Direct Support Professionals (DSPs), Paraprofessionals, Special Education Teachers or Aides, recent college graduates (or current students), and more!
- Be able to work between the hours of 8 AM – 5 PM Monday through Friday, Autism Matters will review other availability on a case-by-case basis.
- Must meet ONE of the EIDBI Levels qualifications for education and/or experience:
- High school diploma (or GED) and 4,000 hours of supervised clinical experience (2 years full-time experience).
- Have a bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university in behavioral or child development science or a related field AND have 1,000 hours of clinical experience, OR completed approved graduate coursework, OR be a BCaBA or RBT.
- Currently enrolled in a bachelor’s degree program in one of the behavioral or child development sciences or related fields and will receive 1,000 hours of supervision.
- Currently enrolled in a graduate program in one of the mental health professional disciplines or have a master’s degree in a mental health field.
- Have 2,000 hours of clinical experience and/or training.
- Provide active treatment and training to clients in the areas of self-help, language development, control of challenging behaviors, community living, safety, social skills, and gross and fine motor development.
- Conduct 1:1 and 2:1 therapy sessions to improve clients' mental and physical well-being (session length up to 4 hours per client).
- Observe, analyze, and record clients' participation, reactions, and progress during treatment sessions on documentation forms in CentralReach.
- Ensure that client routine daily tasks (e.g. toileting, grooming, etc.) are completed as necessary
- Maintain the cleanliness of the facility by completing cleaning tasks as assigned.
- Please note that this position involves physical activity such as near constant standing, bending, lifting, and assisting clients with prompting.
