About the Job
The Behavior Specialist works with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, participating as a team member that assists in the assessment and treatment of severe problem behavior guided by behavior analytic principles. Under the supervision of a licensed professional, the Manager of Meaningful Day Services and the Assistant Director of Meaningful Community Services, the Behavior Specialist will serve as the direct support professional responsible for the implementation of behavioral programming of individual Community Members. The incumbent will conduct observations and collect data to support the development and implementation of systematic Behavioral Intervention Plans (BIP), facilitate and document the development of the BIP, conduct and document Functional Behavioral Assessments (FBA), providing staff training, and monitoring the efficacy of the BIP through data collection and graphing. Additional responsibilities include the development and implementation of crisis management procedures and the provision of behavioral support in the community.
Responsibilities:
- Apply principles of Applied Behavior Analysis to help community members maintain positive social behaviors under the direction of a licensed professional.
- Provide onsite execution and modeling of identified behavioral support strategies.
- Participate in on-site meetings or instructional sessions with the participant’s support network regarding the recommendations, strategies, and next steps identified in the Behavior Plan.
- Provide direct services to individuals at their place of employment, volunteer opportunity, internship, in the community, and/or other identified locations in meeting personal goals.
- Provide transportation of participants for specified programmatic activities in and around the greater Baltimore/Washington metropolitan area.
- Participate in the development and implementation of behavior management and Individual Plans as designed. Implement intervention, coaching, and support strategies in accordance with the plan, program, and needs of the individual.
- Ensure that documentation related to the provision of services to clients (including daily notes and any relevant behavioral data sheets) is completed accurately and submitted in a timely manner in accordance with mandated guidelines from the State of Maryland.
- Implement and develop natural supports and other accommodations for assigned individual to facilitate success on the job and community integration as it relates to behavioral services.
- Attend and participate in all scheduled team meetings and trainings.
- Complete administrative work and/or team assigned projects in a timely manner.
- Provide supports and services in accordance with the Developmental Disabilities Administration Waiver for Behavior Support Services.
EDUCATION: |
- High School diploma, Certificate of Completion, or equivalent required.
- Bachelor’s degree in psychology, behavior analysis, social work, special education, or a related field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE: |
- Minimum of two (2) years of previous experience working with individuals with disabilities is required.
- Experience with individuals with disabilities or related behavioral challenges is preferred.
