Title: Bartender
FLSA Status: Hourly
Reports to: Executive Chef / F&B Manager, General Manager
SUMMARY
Bartenders mix and serve alcoholic beverages based on customer requests. They verify the identification and age of customers, prepare and serve alcoholic beverages, accept payment from customers, clean glasses and bar utensils and balance cash receipts to record sales.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure consistency in recipes, presentation
- Ensures completion of all side work on their shift
- Must properly handle food and money
- Maintains par levels, inventory control
- Makes certain every guest experience is a positive one
- Prepares the bar area for beginning of shift, during and after
- Makes certain to use FIFO procedures; notifies appropriate personnel of any items that are running short
- Ensures proper supplies, materials, products are available for their shift
- Act as the cashier for the servers when necessary
- Ensures minors and intoxicated persons are not being served
- Provide opening and closing inventory of spirits
- Maintain the cleanliness of the bar area through disposing of all waste, clearing and cleaning all glassware; wiping down bar and preparation areas
- Must be able to handle a crisis in a calm, effective manner. This includes upset guests, fire, tornado, armed robbery and assault, bomb threats and accidents.
- Wears proper uniform at all times and is warm, welcoming and genuine
- Step in for other staff as directed/needed or other duties as assigned
- Attend staff meetings as needed
- All other duties assigned by Management

Responsible for following all HGI policies and procedures as set forth in the HGI handbook and property specific guidelines/standards. These policies include dress code, safety and performance standards. Employees must also maintain a professional image and report to work as scheduled.

- Knowledge of federal, state and local laws, ordinances and regulations and HGI policy regarding serving alcohol to minors and intoxicated patrons.
- Must have or be able to obtain eTIPS certification or equivalent as required by HGI brand and state.
EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE
High School education or GED required to accomplish the essential functions of this job; must be computer proficient and familiar with office equipment. Our ideal candidate will have prior experience in a high-end hotel and/or One-year high volume bar experience required. Customer service experience preferred.

Must be able to speak, read, write and understand the primary language(s) used in the workplace. Must be able to read and write to facilitate the communication process. Requires good communication skills, both verbal and written. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the public.
MATHEMATICAL SKILLS
Ability to read, write and recognize numbers, comprehend signs and symbols; cash handling skills required; basic algebra required
PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Walking and standing are required throughout the working day. Length of time of these tasks may vary from day to day and task to task. Ability to physically self-demonstrate bartending techniques, i.e., cutting, preparing, drink presentation, safety and sanitation practices. Must be able to bend, stoop, squat and lift up to 40 lbs. on a regular and continuing basis. Must be able to push and pull carts and equipment occasionally. Requires grasping, writing, standing, sitting, walking, repetitive motions, bending, climbing, listening and hearing ability and visual acuity. Talking and hearing occur continuously in the process of communicating with guests, fellow associates, and supervisors.

Due to the cyclical nature of the hospitality industry, employees may be required to work varying schedules to reflect the business needs of the hotel. In addition, attendance at all scheduled training sessions and meetings is required.
