About the Job
On Call Counsel is seeking a Bankruptcy Legal Assistant with 3+ years of experience for a hybrid contract role at a growing mid-sized firm in the heart of New York City.
The ideal candidate will be highly organized and detail-oriented with excellent verbal and written communication skills. Responsibilities include e-filing, editing, and preparing legal pleadings, TOA, TOC, redlining, and caseload file maintenance.
Essential Responsibilities:
- Drafting Petitions, Schedules, SOFA, Proof of Claim, Fee Applications, Retention Applications, and other bankruptcy forms and correspondence.
- Filing documents electronically within the Federal Courts, specifically with US Bankruptcy and the US District Courts and service.
- High level of communication with Courts, Judge's Chambers, US Trustee's Office, debtors/creditors, and counsel.
- Research regarding bankruptcy dockets, recent filings, court decisions, and news about corporate insolvencies.
- Handle cases from inception to completion: client intake, petition preparation, chapter 11 plan, proof of claim objections, filing motions, and working with trustee office to confirm plans.
- Preparing hearing binders and related materials.
Required Skills:
- Expertise in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook
- Experience with Best-Case, Bankruptcy, ECF, and PACER
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Strong sense of accountability, attention to detail, and organizational skills
- Ability to take dictation over the phone
