Bakery Sales Clerk
BASIC PURPOSE AND FUNCTION: Provides courteous, personalized customer service. Maintains proper inventory levels of products and ensures the cleanliness and appearance of the bakery department.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
Maintains an atmosphere of enthusiastic customer awareness with an emphasis on providing fast, friendly customer service. Engages in suggestive selling and other sales techniques via telephone, in-store intercom, and one-on-one customer contact.
Responsible for cost and quality control. Ensures cleanliness and sanitation of bakery equipment and work area. Ensures a safe work environment.
Follows proper packaging and product handling procedures. Follows company guidelinesand divi sion schematics for setting up and maintaining the stock, cleanliness and appeal of product show cases, display tables, and special displays. Follows proper signing procedures.
Processes bread and dinner rolls. Helps customers with special orders for cakes and other bakery items.
Responsible for following Albertson's code dating procedures for all in-store bakery products, and Division policy for "Yesterday's Bake" items. Complies with state labeling requirements for packaged merchandise.
Responsible for staying informed on the price, ingredients and availability of products, especially advertised merchandise. Keeps baker informed to ensure a constant supply of products. Fills out inventory and production sheets completely and accurately on a daily basis.
Opens and closes the bakery according to company procedures. Responsible for performing all job duties with honesty and integrity. Other necessary and required duties.
SKILLS, PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS AND WORKING CONDITIONS:
Ability to be friendly, courteous, tactful and maintain composure in dealing with customers and co-workers. Must possess good communication skills, legible handwriting, and the ability to read and follow directions.
Ability to frequently reach, lift, and maneuver objects of varying dimensions and weights up to ap proximately 55 lbs.
Ability to stand for long periods of time, walk and move rapidly, bend, stoop, twist and turn fre quently. Manual dexterity and good eye-hand coordination are necessary. Must be able to operate bakery utensils and related equipment. Ability to push and pull fully loaded two-wheel and six-wheel carts.
Mental alertness is necessary to ensure safe and accurate completion of work activities. Requires knowledge of basic math. Must be able to learn taste, content and perishability of products, safety and sanitation procedures, and department policies and procedures.
Exposure to potential hazards exists with respect to baking procedures, equipment, and work aides necessary to perform job duties. Exposure to approximately 400 degrees Fahrenheit while baking product in ovens. Occasional exposure to -20 degrees Fahrenheit while handling product in freezers. Working conditions consist of a temperature controlled store environment.
