About the Role
The Baker/Bakery Chef position is an exciting opportunity for a talented and experienced baker looking to transition to meaningful, impactful work, providing delicious baked goods for thousands of children in the NYC area.
The Bakery Chef will be part of a 10-12 person team working in our commissary kitchen in Astoria, Queens. The ideal candidate has strong bakery skills and creative ideas to get kids excited about eating baked goods that align with USDA MyPlate guidelines. The Baker will produce baked goods that are 100% tree nut/seed-free, vegetarian-compliant, and can also create great-tasting gluten-free options. The Bakery Chef will lead menu creation for breakfast and snack options, as well as compliant grain options that complement lunch menus.

Job Functions
- Culinary Management:
Responsible for the daily culinary execution of the bakery. Maintain a food-safe kitchen at all times, performing quality control on all menu items to ensure recipe consistency and integrity. Improve food costs through disciplined inventory management and creative menu planning. - Administration:
Adhere to production schedules, track and submit consumption numbers, and complete daily compliance reports. Ensure temperature logs and other Department of Health (DOH) requirements are completed daily. - Leadership:
Train, coach, and develop kitchen team members. Create a supportive environment that fosters team cohesion, member retention, and excellent performance.
Skills & Requirements
- 3+ years of professional bakery experience in a fast-paced, high-volume kitchen.
- 1+ years of supervisory/management experience.
- Associate/Bachelor's degree in Culinary Arts is a plus.
- Demonstrated knowledge of proper food safety and sanitation practices.
- Proficiency with software/apps/spreadsheets to track and report data.
- Excellent communication skills and strong organizational abilities.
- Familiarity with NSLP compliance requirements is a plus.
- Must have a valid NYC food handler's license or certificate.
- Must share our passion for improving nutrition and health in schools.
- Bilingual (English and Spanish) is a plus.

Typical Hours: Monday-Friday approx 6:00 am - 3:00 pm
Location: Queens, New York City
Reports to: District Manager
Compensation: $50K - $65K (plus benefits)
