Summary:
Yorktown Systems Group is seeking a highly qualified Azure Cloud Database Administrator (DBA) to provide professional services and support to the US Army Training and Doctrine Command (TRADOC) Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (G-2) Operational Environment (OE) and Core Functions. The Operational Environment (OE) is a composite of the conditions, circumstances, and influences that affect the employment of military forces and bear on the decisions of the unit commander. As an organic, complex system, the OE provides the common framework in which warfighting programs and strategies are conceived, defined, and executed. It is a living foundation in which choices made, by adversaries and allies alike, affect the outcome of the future which must be accounted for. As the adversary’s asymmetrical approach to warfare continues to generate greater complexity and flexibility, the government’s requirement for similar complexity and adaptability in Tactics, Techniques, and Procedures (TTPs) escalates correspondingly.
TRADOC Deputy Chief of Staff for Intelligence (G-2)’s mission is to understand, visualize, describe, deliver & assess the OE to reduce risk and prevent surprise; today and into the future 2035+. TRADOC G-2 is the designated lead for the Operational Environment; the process of developing, verifying, validating, accrediting, and providing OE products and services represents an authoritative, validated OE contextual baseline for TRADOC users and operational forces in the areas of training and training development; education; leader development; concept and doctrine development; and capabilities development, integration, and evaluation.
The TRADOC G2 Azure Cloud DBA serves as the technical expert within the TRADOC G2 Operational Environment Enterprise (OEE) concerning Azure SQL data management planning, development, implementation, problem resolution and administration. Azure SQL DBA provides Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Cybersecurity Technical Orders, IA (Information Assurance) Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), IA Vulnerability Bulletins (IAVBs) and database development installation, configuration, and maintenance IAW (In Accordance With) DOD (Department of Defense). The OEE database system utilizes or connects with a variety of IT equipment to include the Microsoft Azure Cloud Services and covers all or portions the database content for numerous standard and technical automated systems. The DBA will take responsibility for optimization through disaster recovery to writing and maintaining documentation.
Specific duties may include, but are not limited to:
- Migrate existing SQL Server instances to Azure SQL or provision a new Azure SQL database.
- Backup and restore Azure SQL databases.
- Serve as a Azure Database Developer to use the tools available to design, create, implement, and optimize data bases for specific applications (new data bases, optimizing schemas, etc).
- Monitor and optimize the performance of your cloud database to meet your needs.
- Automate common management tasks using PowerShell.
- Ensure your data and applications are highly available and have disaster recovery.
- Modernize existing applications with Azure SQL Managed Instance.
- Responsible for maintaining existing databases with high-availability solutions, replication, backup, restore, encryption, and disaster recovery solutions.
- Configure & Monitor Performance/Storage/Memory alerts on all Production Azure Servers to ensure high availability of data.
- Expertise and experience monitoring Azure workspaces, VM's, VM drives, Memory etc.
- Expertise and experience creating diagrams as they relate to MS SQL and database design.
- Assist to define data retention policies and automation.
- Estimating storage cost and defining data storage strategies
- Support and Troubleshooting – Assist Operations Team with any environment issues during application deployment across Development, QA, Staging, and Production environments
- Assist other teams and customers with troubleshooting problems that may arise from applications or integration of various components.
- Analyzes and plans for changes in data requirements and interfaces between or among different but interdependent data systems
- Develops local standards, policies and procedures concerning the use and maintenance of any elements of the OEE SQL databases
- Cloud DBA will provide Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs), Cybersecurity Technical Orders, IA (Information Assurance) Vulnerability Alerts (IAVAs), IA Vulnerability Bulletins (IAVBs) and database development installation, configuration, and maintenance IAW (In Accordance With) DOD (Department of Defense).

Required Qualifications:
- Five (5) years of Database administrator experience in Microsoft technologies.
- Bachelor’s Degree in Information Technology, Cybersecurity, Data Science, Information Systems, or Computer Science.
- Candidate must possess one or more of the following certifications: Cloud+, SSCP, Security+, or GSEC to be in compliance with DoD 8140 specifications.
- Have foundational knowledge as an Azure Developer of the tools available to create, update, and manage an Azure SQL Database.
- Knowledge and experience with Azure SQL Database, Azure SQL Managed Instance, and SQL Server on Azure Virtual Machines (Windows and Linux).
- 2+ Years’ Experience in performing data migrations upgrades/modernizations, performance tuning on IaaS and PaaS Managed Instance and SQL Azure
- Experience with routine maintenance, recovery, and handling failover of a databases.
- Due to the nature of the government contract requirements and/or clearance requirements, US citizenship is required.
Desired Qualifications:
- Azure Fundamentals or higher certification such as AZ-900, DP-300.
- Independently capable of executing analytical methods and data manipulation.
- Strong technical communication and problem-solving skills, adaptable and customer service oriented.
- Confident with quantitative analytical methods and technologies, including exposure to Azure relational and non-relational databases.
- Strong database migration experience.
- Current working knowledge of database theory and design principles.
- Expertise in Microsoft SQL Server on VM, Azure SQL Managed Instance, Azure SQL.
- Experience in documenting with Microsoft Visio.
Clearance: Must possess a SECRET security clearance.
