Short Description
The AVP, Nursing Operations provide administrative and strategic leadership for the entire range of programs within Nursing Operations, safety, service and quality. Functions as a change agent to drive safety, service and quality. The AVP is responsible for overseeing the daily management and coordination of the clinical departments, professional development, clinical educators and care coordination. The AVP, Nursing Operations participates in the development and implementation of the mission, long-range strategic plans, goals and objectives for the safety, service and quality of our patients. The AVP also has fiscal responsibilities for areas under leadership teams.
The AVP, Nursing Operations drives the implementation of a Culture of Service across nursing resulting in improved patient experience, market share growth and enhanced employee engagement. Manages a comprehensive range of programs with the objectives of improving the quality/value of services available to patients and physicians, and improving the overall efficiency, service and profitability.
PROGRAM PLANNING AND EVALUATION
- Work closely with the Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer, Senior Director of Clinical Operations and Quality and Senior Director of Finance to develop and implement the vision and direction of nursing operations for hospital based services.
- Work closely with VP’s, Department Chairs, Service line Directors and Administration to evaluate ways to improve safety, service and quality.
- Develop and implement a strategic business plan that focuses on improved financial performance.
- Direct management of HPPD, daily staffing and productivity.
- Work closely with aligned Institutes Executive Director and Medical Director to drive strategies to support growth as we all service, safety and quality metrics
- Assist in development an enhanced shared governance model and strategies to improve employee engagement.
- Develop ongoing systems for evaluation (qualitative, fiscal performance) of all new and existing programs (new products, advanced technologies and research opportunities).
- Monitor advances and hospital trends to identify issues critical to service delivery and outcomes.
PATIENT CARE MANAGEMENT
- Collaborate with medical staff, other departments and staff to direct and coordinate medical and nursing management of high quality patient care in the inpatient patient setting.
- Communicate and collaborate with care coordination to improve overall throughput. Create an efficient and smooth process for ease of throughput.
- Stimulate the development of new approaches to patient care management and through put in order to facilitate the continuum of patient care, to promote high quality care in a cost effective manner, controlling resource utilization.
- Guide and support the development of the nursing philosophy, policy, procedures and standards, as related to customer service and operations management in collaboration with the Senior Director for Clinical Operations and Safety.
OPERATIONS MANAGEMENT
- Develop and implement strategies to improve efficiency and product consumption.
- Oversee day to day operations of hospital based staffing office
- Assist with developing an organization structure that promotes effective leadership and aligned decision making.
- Responsible for the budgetary performance of all inpatient operations. Reviews, on a regular basis, all reports including variance reports, operations reports, and other reports as required for appropriate budget analysis and troubleshooting/problem resolution.
QUALITY MANAGEMENT
- Collaborates with physician leadership and Senior Director of Clinical Operations and Quality to continually improve patient satisfaction scores for all inpatient units.
- Collaborates with the quality department in the development and maintenance of a performance improvement program, which includes measurable standards of care, and an evaluation system, which documents the continual improvement within the service line and compares with external benchmarks, when available (NDNQI).
- Assures that all service line programs meet The Joint Commission, HCFA, state licensure and other accreditation standards
Experience Required
In-depth knowledge of hospital operations and nurse driven outcomes.
Hospital Operations, Nursing Management.
Experience working with budgets and financial management.
Education Requirements
Masters Degree preferred (MBA, MSN, and MHA, MA). BSN required.
License/Certification Requirements
Current New Jersey Nursing License, Current specialty certification preferred.
