About the Job
AVID tutors serve as excellent role models of motivated, organized, successful college students
who believe that AVID students can and will succeed. They must be enrolled in college or
university and should represent balanced academic backgrounds. AVID tutors work in a
supportive manner with secondary students and are able to understand the delicate position
they occupy.
Under direct supervision of the AVID Site Coordinator and AVID Site Elective Teacher, the
incumbents in this classification will focus on assisting students in their AVID Elective courses.
College tutors must commit to a tutoring schedule that matches the site they are placed. This
includes a maximum of 4 hours a day, not to exceed 20 hours per week. The position is a 10
month agreement, with potential to return during summer or the next school year with a new
agreement.
