About the Job
Selectek has an immediate need, due to growth, to add an Automation Engineer to their team to help with their established control systems. The Engineer will spend time on the floor troubleshooting and programming as well as assisting with design work when needed.
The Automation Engineer creates and applies technologies and robots to monitor, control and/or aid in production. They will also design, program, simulate, and test automated solutions and robots to ensure proper function. The Engineer will demonstrate an understanding of instrumentation, automated processes, and robots in the manufacturing environment and troubleshoot any associated problems.

The primary role of this job will be working with the other Electrical/Automation Engineer to ensure downtime on their critical machines is kept to a minimum. They have three high priority systems that they have to keep working. When not doing this, their focus will be with the project team (where the controls design comes into play).
Sponsorship: No
Pay range: $38/hour - $48/hour ($79,000 - $100,000 annual salary)
Term of assignment: 6 month temp to perm
Pay method when direct: Hourly eligible for OT
Hours and shift: 7AM 4PM, Monday to Friday
Working From Home/Remote: No
Overtime: Occasional as needed
Travel: None
Work attire: Business Casual

The Automation Engineer creates and applies technologies and robots to monitor, control and/or aid in production. They will also design, program, simulate, and test automated solutions and robots to ensure proper function. The Engineer will demonstrate an understanding of instrumentation, automated processes, and robots in the manufacturing environment and troubleshoot any associated problems.
Key Tasks Include:
- Computer programming and software development
- Troubleshoots equipment problems and performs complex system tests; provides technical and hands-on support.
- Collaborates with vendors, engineering and manufacturing to achieve expected outcomes.
- Participates in all phases of the design and development of automated and robotic solutions (APQP, PPAP, etc.)
- Integrates automation and robots into factory where needed/designated; installs, calibrates, operates, and maintains.
- Trains operators on all new automation and robot integrations; creates training material for new automation/robots.
- Researches, recommends best automation and robot integration solutions.
- Validates automation and robot integration with affected areas; works closely with area being integrated to generate solutions.
- Programs, debugs, teaches robot functions; builds, configures, and tests robots to ensure proper function.
- Manages and stores all automation and robot designs in designated locations, software, etc.
- Seeks professional development to meet changing requirements (read technical literature, attend training, etc.)
- Works safely; considers safety and ergonomics in all new/modified designs; proposes improvements where possible.
- Utilizes a variety of software to perform required tasks: Creo, AutoCAD, WindChill, PDMLink, etc.
- Initiates tooling add/delete/change paperwork as needed.
- Participates in/maintains 5S requirements in all designated work areas.
- Implements/develops new control systems for machines and automation arrangements.
- Understands and ensures compliance with relevant health and safety regulations as well as security and quality standards.
- Tests, maintains, and modifies existing systems.
- Collaborates with process, industrial and manufacturing engineers, as well as quality and operational staff.
- Serves as liaison with clients, suppliers, contractors, etc.
- Manages projects within cost and time constrained environments.
- Provides advice and consultancy support.
- Purchases equipment.
- Programs computers and runs test procedures.
- Documents/manages the documentation of control systems, programs, and automation.
- Associates degree in Engineering (Mechatronics, Automation, Electrical etc) from a college or university
- 3+ years of relevant experience in a manufacturing environment
- Strong knowledge of Siemens Controllers (840D/Sinumeric One)
- Proficient with robot programing (Fanuc, ABB, Staubli, Omron)
- AutoCAD or similar design software proficiency
- Bachelors degree in Engineering
