About the Role:
As an Automation Engineer, you’ll play a critical role in improving manufacturing operations through automation and continuous improvement initiatives. You’ll bring technical expertise, innovative thinking, and leadership to ensure our facility operates at peak performance.
Key Responsibilities
Automation Engineering
- Design, program, and integrate controls and components for automated/semi-automated material and product conveyance systems.
- Lead automation projects, including new installations and retrofits, to enhance safety, quality, and production efficiency.
- Collaborate with process and program engineers on automation-related initiatives.
- Apply knowledge of PLCs, HMIs, robotics, and vision systems (Fanuc, Cognex, Universal Robotics).
- Develop electrical schematics and ensure adherence to control circuit standards.
Continuous Improvement
- Lead and execute strategies to improve productivity, reduce costs, and optimize workflows.
- Analyze processes and recommend alternative layouts for equipment and facilities.
- Oversee facility upgrades, including selecting and installing new equipment.
- Solve production and tooling challenges using advanced problem-solving techniques.
- Conduct capacity analyses and recommend preventative maintenance strategies.
Leadership & Support
- Coach and train team members to enhance their technical skills and effectiveness.
- Facilitate cross-functional teams to drive sustainable process improvements.
- Maintain and update plant and equipment drawings using 2D CAD and 3D modeling software.
- Serve as the Single Point of Accountability (SPA) for designated areas to ensure alignment with customer needs.
What You Bring
Education & Experience
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or a related technical field.
- At least 5 years of experience, preferably in plastic injection molding or a manufacturing environment.
- Proven track record of driving change and improvement in a manufacturing setting.
Technical Skills
- Advanced knowledge of injection molding processes and metrology.
- Expertise in industrial machine control circuits, electrical schematic design, and robotics.
- Proficient in 2D CAD, 3D modeling, and Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Strong analytical problem-solving abilities and data-driven decision-making.
Leadership & Interpersonal Skills
- Excellent communication and team collaboration abilities.
- Strong leadership skills to engage teams across all levels of the organization.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to stand, walk, kneel, crouch, and climb regularly.
- Capable of lifting up to 35 pounds.
- Good vision (close, color, peripheral, depth), correctable to at least 20x40.
