Position Purpose:
Under the general direction of the Pharmacy Leadership, this position acts as the administrator for assigned elements of pharmacy automation. This position assumes responsibility for ensuring that the automated dispensation functioning in a safe and effective manner. In addition, this position is responsible for coordinating with the senior buyer to ensure that medications procured from outside sources are properly and adequately received and distributed, in accordance with policies and financial stewardship.
Nature and Scope:
In addition to performing, in a competent manner, activities of a pharmacy technician, this position is responsible for primary support of automated dispensing technology, including but not limited to software/hardware set-up, training, report review, management of requests for reporting, ADS operational maintenance, construction of database files, and primary operation liaison between vendor and the pharmacy. Additional duties will include performance review of project work to support pharmacy system users.
This position can involve interaction with multiple departments, and/or employees. It will be essential to communicate and develop professional, effective working relationships; representing of the pharmacy department in a positive manner.
The incumbent will be required to work varying shifts and days to meet the needs of the Department of Pharmacy which operates 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. Overtime may be required. The incumbent is expected to attend staff meetings on a regular basis.
Working knowledge of both of the pharmacy computer systems, patient billing procedures, familiarity of medication dosages and strengths, inventory processes, and appropriation of PAR levels, auditing of patient charges, department quality assurance initiatives and Renown and specific departmental policies and procedures, as well as state and federal laws regarding pharmacy are crucial for this position. This position is also responsible for the ongoing training of the staff for use on such programs, up to and including initial training and annual recertification, as well as sign-on maintenance of these individuals.
This incumbent most possess problem solving skills to effectively handle unusual situations and have the flexibility to adjust to changing demands and needs within the hospital and department, and provide support to cost saving initiatives and programs. Must demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to effectively participate as a member of the healthcare organization providing primary patient care to a large diverse community. Minimum Qualifications: Requirements - Required and/or Preferred
Education:
Must have working-level knowledge of the English language, including reading, writing and speaking English. Two years college preferred (courses include chemistry, physiology, and algebra).
Experience:
Minimum 2 years pharmacy experience is required, specifically involving automated dispensing units.
License(s):
Ability to obtain and maintain a State of Nevada Pharmacy Technician license. Registered by the Nevada State Board of Pharmacy is required. Preference will be given to applicants
who have completed a recognized Pharmacy Technician training program.
Certification(s):
Continued certification from the automation vendor is required; but can be obtained post hire. Preference will be given to applicants who carry a CPhT certification.
Computer / Typing:
Must possess, or be able to obtain within 90 days, the computers skills necessary to complete online learning requirements for job-specific competencies, access online forms and policies, complete online benefits enrollment, etc. Typing: 30 wpm.
