Job Summary:
As an Auto Shop Mechanic, you will be responsible for diagnosing, repairing, and maintaining mechanical issues on company vehicles. This role involves ensuring that all company vehicles are in optimal operating condition, adhering to safety standards, and performing routine and preventative maintenance to minimize vehicle downtime.
Key Responsibilities:
- Inspect brake systems, steering mechanisms, wheel bearings, and other vital components to ensure proper operation.
- Utilize hand tools (e.g., screwdrivers, pliers, wrenches) and power tools (e.g., pneumatic wrenches, lathes, welding equipment) to perform repairs and adjustments.
- Adjust and reline brakes, align wheels, tighten bolts and screws, and reassemble equipment.
- Examine and adjust protective guards, loose bolts, and specified safety devices to maintain safety standards.
- Perform routine maintenance such as oil changes, battery checks, and lubrication of equipment.
- Test drive vehicles to diagnose issues and confirm repairs.
- Use hydraulic jacks or hoists to raise trucks and heavy equipment.
- Attach test instruments to vehicles and interpret readings to diagnose malfunctions.
- Rebuild gas or diesel engines and recondition or replace parts, including pistons, bearings, gears, and valves.
- Rewire ignition systems, lights, and instrument panels.
- Specialize in repairing and maintaining engine components, such as fuel injection systems.
- Inspect, repair, and maintain automotive and mechanical equipment, including pumps and compressors.
- Disassemble and overhaul internal combustion engines, transmissions, clutches, and other components.
- Diagnose and repair vehicle heating and cooling systems.
- Repair or adjust seats, doors, windows, and other vehicle components.
- Operate valve-grinding machines to grind and reset valves.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Education:
- High School Diploma or GED preferred.
Experience:
- Previous experience in automotive repair and maintenance is highly desirable.
Knowledge Skills & Abilities:
- Ability to be approved for and maintain eligibility on company insurance for driving purposes.
- Fluency in reading and writing English.
- Customer service-oriented with a positive, team-oriented attitude.

Work Location and Travel:
- Location is at 2730 Mine and Mill Road, Lakeland, Florida, 33801
Work Environment:
- This is a full-time position with hours from Monday to Friday, 6:00 am - 2:00 pm; occasional overtime may be required.
- This position is safety sensitive in nature, which means employees perform duties so fraught with risks of injury to self or others, or environmental injury, that even a momentary lapse of concentration or attention can have disastrous consequences.
- The working environment is often in harsh elements (hot/humid and/or cold temperatures, rain, etc.) Industrial environments often have exposure to hazardous chemicals, moving heavy equipment, and other safety-sensitive hazards/risks. Must always be alert and able to safely perform the essential duties of the job without risking harm to oneself or others.

Physical Requirements:
Talk/Hear: Must be able to effectively communicate with team members, diagnose issues through sounds, and ensure safety in the workplace.
Stand/Sit: Required to perform tasks such as inspecting, repairing, and maintaining vehicles, which require varying positions for access to different parts of the vehicle.
Walk: Required to move between different workstations, retrieve tools and parts, and access various areas of the vehicle or shop.
Use hands/fingers to handle or feel: Must be able to handle tools, perform precise adjustments, and manipulate small parts during vehicle repairs and maintenance.
Climb: Required to access elevated parts of vehicles, reach equipment on higher shelves, or work on large trucks and machinery.
Stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl: Required to access hard-to-reach areas under vehicles, inspect and repair components beneath the car, and work in tight or confined spaces.
See: Required to inspect vehicle components, identify issues, and ensure that repairs and maintenance tasks are performed accurately and safely.
Carry, weight, Lift: Must be able to handle and move heavy tools, parts, and equipment, as well as to position or install components in vehicles, up to 50 pounds.
Exposure to work: Frequently is exposed to work environments with moving equipment, machinery, and potential safety hazards, often in non-climate controlled and usually in hot and humid conditions.
