About the Job
Auto body painters must communicate with management, and other employees to plan and execute repair and painting jobs on a variety of vehicles. Depending on their employers, auto body painters may be required to have knowledge of specialty painting techniques. Some auto body painters may need collision repair capabilities as well.
Essential Duties And Responsibilities
• Prepare for a painting project, remove rust and other debris from surfaces to be painted, fill cavities and dents in vehicles to create an even surface, mask or tape off details and components to avoid contamination and select the proper colors and substances for the project.
• Use paint sprayers and brushes to apply paint to a vehicle, determining the necessary application of paint for a thorough coat and checking for runs or sags in the paint to ensure a quality product.
• Match Colors (to blendable match)
• Spray out cards (must be used and approved by management) if color is in question.
• Check panel preparation (make sure blocked properly no waves in panels, pin holes etc)
• Assure all moldings seals and impeding items are removed for proper painting
• Apply paint to match OEM appearance and texture.
• Advise management before painting process begins if any imperfections or dents found.
• Follow Repair order to the letter.
• Help prep vehicles for paint when no other cars are ready to be sprayed.
• Complies with all laws and regulations pertaining to paint, thinners and other hazardous materials, reports any deviations to management.
• Operates all tools and equipment in a safe manner.
• Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
• Previous hands-on auto body experience required.
• Working experience with fiber glass repair and painting.
• Ability to multi-task, work in a fast-paced environment, adapt to changing priorities and be accountable for all job responsibilities independently while partnering with other team members
• Valid driver license with good driving record required.
Education And Experience
• Equivalent to completion of the twelfth school grade &/or two years of experience learning the auto body repair trade as a helper or apprentice. Any equivalent combination of education and experience determined to be acceptable by the Personnel Department.
Language Skills
Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals. Ability to write routine reports and correspondence. Ability to communicate effectively before groups of customers and employees of organization.
Reasoning Ability
Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
Physical Demands
BODY POSITIONS: Includes sitting, standing, walking and use of hands and arms to operate office equipment. Must be able to see (20/20 vision with glasses) and hear (with mechanical assistance if necessary) sufficient to understand and comprehend individual one-on-one conversations.
BODY SENSES: Must have command of the senses of sight, hearing and touch. Specific vision abilities required include close vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus. These vision requirements in each area must be sufficient to shift in focus from computer screens to close forms.
• Strength to perform average lifting up to 35 lbs. and occasionally over 70 lbs.
• Regularly required to sit, stand, bend, reach, talk, hear, use hands and fingers, handle or operate objects, tools, or controls.
• Regularly required to stoop, kneel, and crouch.
• While performing the duties of this job, the employee is exposed to weather conditions precedent at that time.
• Required vision include close vision, distance vision, peripheral vision and the ability to adjust focus.
• Required to operate equipment and move vehicles in a safe manner at all times.
• Must be willing to wear gloves, masks, eye and ear protection.

Travel
May be requested to perform work at any of Roem's locations: Laguna Niguel, Anaheim, Foothill Ranch, Pasadena, Santa Monica
Work Environment
Work performed in an office and shop settings due to location of customer vehicles. Exposure to shop environment such as noise, dust, odors and fumes, chemicals and adhesives the noise level in the work environment is usually moderate.
