JOB SUMMARY
The Audiovisual Specialist is responsible for the maintenance and repair of classroom, meeting room and event space audiovisual (AV) systems, performs in-house AV equipment installation and system configuration, assists in managing major technology rollouts and provides consultation and project management services for contracted installations. This role works collaboratively with faculty, staff, student workers, and external vendors to deliver services and solutions to internal clients.
The Audiovisual Specialist works closely with and co-mentors a team of student technicians, taking a leadership role in assisting other AV staff in developing the technical, customer service and professional skills of our student colleagues.
The Audiovisual Specialist assists with monitoring the AV ticket queue, coordinating responses and applying resources. This role responds to emergencies as needed and acts as an escalation point for tickets unable to be resolved by first responders, moving more complicated tickets forward and taking ownership of internal and end user communication throughout the process.
Working collaborative with staff and student technicians the Audiovisual Specialist performs new in-house AV equipment or system installations, upgrades and configurations, and assists in managing major strategic technology rollouts.
In coordination with the Director, the Audiovisual Specialist provides consultation and project management services for departmental AV technology projects. This role consults with clients on new requests, assists with managing the RFP (Request for Purchase) and RFQ (Request for Quote) processes, coordinates logistics with internal and external partners, and creates and delivers support documentation, end-user instruction, and training.
This role develops strong partnerships with campus stakeholders, support units, and vendors and acts as a primary point of contact for AV contractors working on campus.
The Audiovisual Specialist stays abreast of emerging technology trends and attends webinars, conferences, and training courses to stay up to date with contemporary hardware and software solutions. This role makes purchasing suggestions, assists in product evaluation and makes recommendations for evolving university technology standards.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Collaborate with AV staff and student technicians to maintain, troubleshoot and repair AV systems.
- Collaborate with AV staff and student technicians and to configure in-house AV installations and/or updates and manage new technology rollouts
- Assist with monitoring the AV ticket queue, emergency response, coordinating responses and applying resources.
- Provide consultation and project management services for AV installations.
- Remain current with and use ITS Service Delivery procedures for designated systems of record for ticket reporting, data and documentation tools, installation & inventory, ITS communication guidelines, customer communication, industry best practices, technology trends and other duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- B.A. or B.S. degree in a relevant field
- Five years of broad experience providing computing and audiovisual technology support
- Previous experience with classroom learning environments and event technology is required.
- Knowledge of AV systems, including multimedia and video equipment, installation and maintenance.
- Experience managing projects and working with external vendors and contractors
Preferred Qualifications
- Networking, AVIXA, Cisco, Dante, NDI, Extron, Crestron, QSC, Shure and other audiovisual certifications a plus.
An equivalent combination of education and experience from which comparable knowledge and skills have been acquired may be substituted.
