Attorney for Nonprofits – Senior Associate Attorney, Transactional Matters
Position Overview: Legal for Good, a woman-owned law firm founded in 2010 that focuses on advising nonprofit organizations, is seeking a highly skilled Senior Associate Attorney with extensive knowledge of nonprofit law to join our team. The successful candidate will play a crucial role in providing comprehensive legal support to our new and existing nonprofit clients and will help manage a team of support professionals.
Key Responsibilities:
- Advise and assist nonprofit organizations with legal matters from incorporation through dissolution.
- Provide guidance on nonprofit governance issues, tax-exempt status, and other nonprofit-business and tax related matters, acting as a key resource for nonprofit organizations, their boards of directors, and their key staff.
- Draft, review, and negotiate various legal documents, including mergers, asset transfers, simple and complex contracts, and policies/procedures tailored to the unique needs of each nonprofit organization.
- Conduct thorough legal research and provide detailed legal opinions and advice.
- Help lead a team of support professionals.
Qualifications:
- Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
- Admission to the Minnesota state bar.
- Minimum of 3 years’ experience specifically in nonprofit business and tax law, with a preference for 5-7 years overall attorney experience.
- Mastry of nonprofit business and tax laws and regulations, both state and federal, is mandatory.
- Strong knowledge of Minnesota employment laws and regulations is a plus.
- Strong knowledge of data privacy and protection laws is a plus.
- Excellent research and analytical skills.
- Exceptional attention to detail.
- Exceptional communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to provide clear, effective, and pragmatic advice and guidance.
