Ethical Culture Fieldston School is a progressive PreK-12 independent school that has been serving students from throughout New York City and the surrounding suburbs since 1878. ECFS offers a rich curriculum in the arts, sciences, and humanities. A co-ed, nonsectarian school, it serves a diverse community of about 1,700 students on two campuses -- one in the Riverdale section of the Bronx, and the other in Manhattan. The Upper School, located in the Bronx, is comprised of approximately 600 students and 80 faculty members.

Role Summary:
We are seeking a certified part time Athletic Trainer to assist in covering athletic contests during the academic school year as necessary. The majority of our athletic contests take place after 3 PM and are held both on and off site. The average weekly hours for the athletic trainer would be 10-15 hours in the spring and fall and 3-5 hours in the winter. The athletic trainer would be expected to administer injury prevention and care to all participating athletes in the event being covered.
The hiring range for this position is $50.00 - $60.00 per hour and this role will not typically exceed 15 hours during a work week. When determining the salary for an offer, ECFS considers factors including, but not limited to the scope and responsibilities of the position, internal peer equity, key skills required for the role, the candidate’s work experience, education, and training, as well as market and organizational considerations.
Please note that this is an onsite role and not performed remotely. Ethical Culture Fieldston School retains its right to modify job duties in accordance with changing operational needs.
Responsibilities:
Specific responsibilities of the Athletic Trainer will include:
- Immediate evaluation, management, treatment, and possible parental notification of all athletic injuries (occurring during athletic practices and matches;
- Tracking/logging injuries and communicating injuries to the head athletic trainer;
- Administration of sports medicine program;
- Concussion Management (evaluation, treatment, referral for advanced medical care, return to play protocol);
- Building relationships with coaches and athletic staff to ensure proper communication regarding athletes health status, injury plans and physical activity restrictions are properly handled;
- Performing other related projects and duties as assigned.
Requirements
The successful incumbent will possess:
- A Bachelor’s degree required;
- Certification by the Board of the National Athletic Trainers Association required;
- A certification in CPR/First Aid a must;
- The ability to confidently collaborate and build relationships with faculty, administrators, the student and parent community;
- A minimum of 3-5 years of experience working in educational athletic department function;
- Confidence in ability to stay calm in stressful situations that may arise;
- The capability to handle confidential material with discretion and possess the highest degree of integrity;
- Strong time management and organizational skills with outstanding attention to detail;
- The ability to multi-task and shift priorities accordingly;
- The ability to adhere to school, state and athletic association policies, regulations and standards;
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills;
- Willingness to learn and embrace new ideas, technology, and processes;
- The ability to work independently at times and also collaboratively in a group;
- The ability to work evening and weekends as necessary;
- Respect and appreciation for diversity in all of its forms;
- The ability to listen effectively and be receptive to feedback.
