About the Job
Responsible for working directly with the medical team comprising of medical doctors, orthopedic surgeons and functional medicine doctors. Provides emergency care and crises management for sport related injuries. Coordinates care for athletes with the rehabilitation team.
Principal Accountabilities:
1. Delivers treatment and care to patients under the supervision of the physician.
2. Promotes, develops, and implements safety and injury prevention measures.
3. Provides appropriate injury assessment and care, making referrals to other treatment providers as appropriate.
4. Develops a policy and procedure manual for the athletic training program to ensure compliance with standards of good practice and all relevant rules and regulations.
5. Acts as liaison between patient, physician, and physician office staff.
6. Assists with development of new programs and materials focused on wellness, injury prevention, and fitness for physically active patients (athletes).
7. Performs other related duties as assigned.
The athletic trainer will deliver treatment and care to patients under the supervision of the physician in accordance with quality standards of Atlantic Health System and New Jersey's Athletic Training Practice Act. The athletic trainer must maintain their knowledge base in order to accurately evaluate and report clinical findings to the physician. In order to remain up to date on latest advancements in orthopedics and sports medicine the athletic trainer must regularly attend continuing education courses.
The following describes the responsibilities of the athletic trainer while working in the physician practice
setting.
- Patients will be interviewed to obtain their complete medical history and collect relevant clinical information regarding their chief complaint. Pertinent findings will be documented properly in EPIC.
- Patients will be properly prepared and positioned for exams and procedures.
- The athletic trainer will assist the physician
- In the exam room
- Apply durable medical equipment and splints
- Develop and instruct home exercise programs
- Perform concussion assessments
- Provide wound care and apply dressings
- Order diagnostic testing
- Maintain clinic work flow
- The athletic trainer will ensure all related reports, labs, and information are reviewed by the physician, filed, and available in patients' medical record.
- At all times the athletic trainer will act as the liaison between the patient and physician. During the office visit the athletic trainer will follow the patient's progress from the time of arrival to their time of departure, making sure all the patients and doctors needs are met to provide the best patient/physician experience.
- Patient phone calls will be managed in a timely fashion. All patient concerns will be properly triaged and communicated with the attending physician and relevant staff.
