Rye Country Day School is seeking an Athletic Director beginning July 01, 2025. Reporting to the Assistant Head of School and working closely with the senior administration, the next Athletic Director at Rye Country Day will be the visionary leader of the Athletics program. The Athletic Director will oversee a robust Athletics program, one that competes in multiple athletic leagues in NY, CT, and the rest of New England, including a large group of both internal and external coaches. The Athletic Director will set forth a clear vision for the future of the Athletics program, which will include a significant addition to the Athletics facilities on newly purchased land.
Rye Country Day School is a coeducational, college preparatory school dedicated to providing students from Pre-Kindergarten through Grade 12 with an excellent education using both traditional and innovative approaches. Specific responsibilities of this position include:
• Management of a large Athletics department, including an Associate AD, Assistant AD, Athletic trainers, and coaches;
• Hiring, training, development, and evaluation of all athletic team coaches, both internal and external;
• Oversight and continued management of the on-site facilities at Rye Country Day, including the hockey rink, gyms, turf fields, squash courts, and fitness room;
• In collaboration with the Athletic Task Force, creation of a new vision for the Athletics program at Rye Country Day, which will also include development, planning, and construction of added athletic facilities;
• Refine scheduling and maintain continued focus on and optimization of internal processes;
• Navigation of an Athletics program that completes in multiple leagues, including leagues in New York, Connecticut, and the rest of New England;
• Collaboration with the Admissions and College Counseling departments at the school;
• Continued curation of relationships in the community, including with managers of off-site facilities.
Qualifications and Personal Attributes
• An exceptional communicator, both oral and written, with the ability to reach many internal and external audiences;
• Demonstrated ability to actively connect to a community outside of a school’s walls, including with leaders in outside programs and with those who oversee community facilities;
• Significant Athletic administrative experience with excellent abilities as a manager of people in an athletic department;
• A background in coaching and an ability to identify, hire, orient, develop, and retain excellent coaches;
• A strong background in equity and inclusion in Athletics;
• A systematic and organized thinker, who can oversee the day-to-day of a large athletics program while also formulate a vision for the program moving forward;
• Capacity to instill a spirit around the athletics program at the school, including student, parent, and faculty participation;
• The heart of an educator who sees athletics as both a distinct discipline and a vehicle to skill building and life preparation beyond sports themselves.
