PRIMARY FUNCTION:
Under the direction of the Service Director, the Athletic Coordinator (AC) will be responsible for maintaining the coordination, implementation, and administration of a "Sports Academy" Program at the Jacqueline Bradley & Clarence Otis Family Branch. The specific duties of the Athletic Coordinator will include program development, implementation, and management, participation in staff development, and offsite collaborations. They will aid in providing a safe, nurturing, well-supervised "Sports Academy" program. They will instruct elementary and secondary students on the techniques, skills, and rules of various sports. The AC will also work with students on the concept of teamwork and teach students about the importance of physical fitness, healthy eating habits, and other habits for a healthy lifestyle. They will be the liaison with coaches, parents, collaborators, school management, donors/partners, and visitors to display the site and the program positively.
The Athletic Coordinator will work 4-8 pm Monday through Friday during the school year and 11 am-5 pm during the Summer and non-school days. In addition, this position is based on job performance as well as the number of youth registered weekly; should registration numbers drop, this position may not be needed for that week, and/or the position terminated.
KEY ROLES (Essential Job Responsibilities):
- Initiate, develop, and implement a club sports calendar
- Prepare/set up gym prior to the activities/programs with Club members.
- Oversee and implement organized athletic activities including but not limited to football, tennis, basketball, volleyball and soccer, as well as other competitive sports/activities.
- Market, develop and advertise sports programs for parents and children that align with the BGCCF mission.
- Provide an atmosphere and environment conducive to the intellectual, physical, social, and emotional development of Club members.
- Prepare and implement lessons plans, providing appropriate learning experiences for members based on grade levels.
- Establish and enforce rules of conduct; supervise Club members in the gymnasium or outside on the blacktop or athletic fields.
- Demonstrate skills being taught; assist Club members in performing skills.
- Teach safety rules related to each activity.
- Assess fitness levels; perform fitness testing twice a year for presidential fitness.
- Work collaboratively with Service Director to purchase equipment as needed and maintain equipment inventory.
- Plan, organize, and coordinate field day; develop activities; set up for activities.
- Monitor and evaluate Club member skill levels and outcomes.
- Communicate and interact with Club members, parents, staff, and the community.
- May plan and supervise field trips following established procedures.
- Meet and coordinate with program staff and directors.
- Monitor use and care of equipment, materials, and facilities.
- Attend in-service trainings and workshops.
- Knowledge of emergency plans, safety protocols, such as lockdown procedures.
- Participate in fire drills, as required.
- May be asked to become involved in community initiatives
- May be required to move furniture out of the gymnasium to prepare for activities.
Risk Management and Maintenance
- Ensure adherence to appropriate standards and procedures.
- Ensure a clean, healthy, safe, positive environment is created and maintained, producing a sense of physical and emotional safety.
- Ensure appropriate maintenance and operations of the physical properties and equipment of the Club creating a clean, healthy, safe, positive environment.
- Ensure that an attractive, welcoming, fun environment is created and maintained.
- Ensure that facilities, equipment and supplies are maintained.
ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
1. Purchases supplies and equipment, in compliance with child safety and other relevant standards and procedures.
2. Exercise authority in problems relating to facility safety issues.
4. Assume other duties as assigned.
RELATIONSHIPS:
Internal: Maintain close, daily contact with Club professional staff to ensure a clean, healthy, safe, positive environment is created and maintained, producing a sense of physical and emotional safety and minimizing risks in the Club's physical environment.
SKILLS/KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED:
- It is preferred that the Athletic Coordinator possess a BA/BS and have 2-3 years' experience developing and implementing sports programs.
- Extensive knowledge of athletic activities, rules, regulations and procedures for league organization required.
- It is preferred that the Athletic Coordinator possess excellent computer skills; have the ability to effectively track data and produce reports.
- It is preferred that the Athletic Coordinator possess effective communication skills and sound administrative.
- Possess at least 2 years' experience working with school-aged youth and teens with a demonstrated knowledge of and commitment to best practices in education and recreation for children and families.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS/WORK ENVIRONMENT:
Ability to utilize gym equipment and/or machinery. Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and policy manuals. Ability to write reports and correspondence. The ability to clearly and concisely exchange/receive ideas, facts, and/or technical information with others. The contractor is required to use hands to handle or feel and reach with hands and arms. The contractor is required to stand and walk. The contractor may occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds. Work environment: Normal club environment
