Responsibilities
The University of Rochester’s Department of Pediatrics, Division of Infectious Diseases is seeking to add a board certified/eligible physician-scientist with demonstrated research skills who enjoys teaching in the setting of an academic medical center. Successful applicants will share in the clinical and educational activities of the section and will be expected to develop an independent research program.
The ideal candidate will have a research program with a history of competitive grant support. Any area of infectious diseases research will be considered but preference will be given to those areas that synergize with ongoing areas of Investigation which include infectious diseases of the lung, host defense, vaccine development, and opportunistic infections.
The Division of Infectious Diseases resides within a research intensive Department of Pediatrics, which consistently ranks among the top 20 Pediatrics Departments for NIH grant support. Notable past achievements include development of the H. influenzae b vaccine; surfactant replacement therapy for premature infants and development of the Rochester criteria which provides a safe way to manage the febrile infant without hospitalization.
The Division enjoys a close working relationship with the Infectious diseases Division in the Department of Internal Medicine and with the basic science programs in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology, including ready access to graduate students.
The Division provides inpatient and outpatient care within Golisano Children’s Hospital, one of the premier children’s hospitals in Upstate New York, featuring a newly built 8 story children’s hospital with a 68-bed NICU, and a 28-bed PICU that includes a dedicated cardiac care unit.
Rochester was recently voted one of the 10 most livable cities in the U.S., enjoys multiple nationally-ranked public high schools, and boasts a rich arts, sports, and collegial atmosphere, both within and outside of the University.
