KEY RESPONSIBILITIES: The Associate Vice President for Financial Planning and Analysis (AVP - FP&A) is a leadership position within the Finance Division that oversees the development of financial strategies, leads the financial planning and analysis team, and partners with various university divisions to provide insights and recommendations that support strategic objectives. The leader in this role has responsibility for ensuring financial sustainability, improving financial processes, and driving data-informed decision-making. Has management and oversight responsibilities for the University's consolidated budgeting, multi-year financial planning, financial analysis, and reporting. Is a strategic thinker who regularly identifies issues related to budgeting and financial planning across the University and guides and oversees the implementation of business process improvements and plays a crucial role in shaping the financial future of the university. + Coordinates and collaborates on all work efforts with other leaders in the Finance Division as well as works closely with the Vice President for Finance and Treasury and Deputy CFO to ensure effective and efficient operations of the department. + Regularly collaborates with counterparts in the schools and administrative units to monitor the financial performance, coordinates the work related to budget and multi-year financial plan, identifies and resolves issues impacting the University's financial position, and assists in the preparation of financial presentations to the IFPB Executive Committee and the Board of Trustees. + Collaborates with the Office of the Provost and the Capital Improvement Planning team on academic programs and capital plans and their impact on the University's budget and multi-year financial plan. + May represent the VP and Deputy CFO on strategic projects, key initiatives, and planning meetings. Strategic Financial Planning + Leads the university's financial planning efforts to support the institution's mission and long-term objectives. + Develops multi-year financial models and forecasts, incorporating strategic initiatives, operating budgets, and potential revenue opportunities. + Provides financial insights and recommend strategies for growth, resource allocation, and cost optimization. Budget Development and Oversight + Oversees the university's annual budgeting process, including planning, execution, monitoring, and reporting. + Ensures efficient allocation of resources across schools and units while aligning with academic and administrative priorities. + Conducts budget variance analyses and recommends corrective actions as needed. Financial Analysis and Reporting + Produces and presents monthly, quarterly, and annual financial reports to senior leadership. + Leads financial analysis on key performance indicators, revenue streams, and expense trends. + Develops and manages financial dashboards and other reporting tools to enhance transparency and data access across the university. Collaboration and Advising + Collaborates with senior leadership, academic leaders, and schools/units CBOs to provide financial advice, strategic planning, and operational support. + Serves as a trusted advisor to the VP for Finance and Treasury and Deputy CFO and other finance leaders on financial matters. + Supports university-wide projects by providing financial guidance, scenario analysis, and funding strategy recommendations. Team Leadership and Development + Leads and mentors the FP&A team, fostering a culture of continuous improvement, professional growth, and high performance. + Develops training programs to build financial acumen and analytical skills within the team. + Promotes diversity, equity, and inclusion within the team and university community. + Performs related responsibilities as required. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: + Bachelor's degree in Finance, Economics, or related field and 10 years of experience in financial planning and analysis or closely related field with responsibility for large program/functional area; managerial/ coaching experience; proven record of accomplishment of being a positive change agent. + MBA preferred. + Strong leadership, communication, and interpersonal skills. + Ability to collaborate effectively across departments and lead a diverse team. + Exceptional analytical skills, logical approaches to problem-solving, the ability to multi-task and manage time efficiently and effectively, professional communication skills and good judgement, and a desire and ability to take initiative, while successfully contributing to a collegial group environment. + Mastery of key business and financial concepts and tools (e.g. budgets, operating expenses, capital expenses, financial statements, Microsoft Excel and other Tableau-like product). NOTE: This role will be granted the opportunity to work from home regularly but must be able to commute to Emory University on a flexible weekly schedule based upon business needs. Schedule is based on agreed upon guidelines of department. This role requires residency in the state of GA. Emory reserves the right to change remote work status with notice to employee.
