Who We Are:
The Power Cycle Machinery group at Southwest Research Institute takes concepts for power cycles and technologies that support the electricity generation/storage, energy distribution, and industrial power applications of the future and turns them into working prototypes.
Objectives of this Role:
- Help engineers set up and perform tests on machinery for the energy industry. This include turbines, compressors, pumps, heat exchangers, and other related systems.
- Track parts inventory, including receiving parts, storing parts and equipment, and pulling parts and equipment from storage to be installed.
- Manage maintenance of the facility ensuring that it stays in good operating condition.
- Support drafting activities particularly related to pipe routing.
- Updating design models to reflect the as-built conditions.
Daily and Monthly Responsibilities:
- Install/remove piping components and assemblies, assist in assembling/disassembling test fixtures and mechanical hardware; load, unload, move materials and equipment for operations; drive Institute vehicles and forklifts; operate cranes and other lifts.
- Assist in the wiring and troubleshooting of instrumentation and data acquisition.
- Assembly of machinery components and supporting test loop hardware, potentially including piping flange assembly, pipe fittings, piping supports and clamps, tubing and fittings, hoses, foundation hardware, bolted joints, alignment of rotating machinery, heated interference fits.
- Communicate with SwRI staff, clients, and vendors regarding work status, progress, problem/solutions, and testing results.
- Participate in continuous operational and safety improvement processes while working in a collaborative team environment where every voice is heard.
Requirements:
- Requires a high school diploma or equivalent.
- 1-3 years: Familiarity with mechanical tools, general laboratory equipment, and piping systems.
- A valid/clear driver's license is required.
