The Department of Physics and the Department of Chemistry at Columbia University are looking to fill positions at the rank of Associate Research Scientist and/or Postdoctoral Research Scientist. Both positions require a PhD degree in Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Applied Physics, Physics, Materials Science, or related fields, and 0-3 years of postdoctoral experience for the rank of Postdoctoral Research Scientist and 3+ years for the rank of Associate Research Scientist. Potential research topics include microwave plasma reactor design and construction, scanning confocal photoluminescence spectroscopy, electron spin coherence measurements, diamond growth and processing, surface science, scanning confocal microscopy, and optical magnetometry.
Suitable candidates will manage a variety of collaborations with academic, national labs, and contract research organizations, and will mentor undergraduate and graduate students. Suitable candidates will also participate in the preparation and submission of grants and related fund-raising activities, and preparation of publications and patents.
This position requires a Ph.D. degree in Chemistry or Biology. Postdoctoral experience in the areas of microwave plasma reactor design and construction, scanning confocal photoluminescence spectroscopy, electron spin coherence measurements, and diamond growth and processing is preferred. Candidates with greater than 3 years of experience will be considered for Associate Research Scientist positions, while those with 0-3 years of experience will be considered for postdoctoral positions.
