Overview
The Associate Manager provides support and leadership to animal care staff and Supervisors for the daily husbandry and technical operations of the Research Core program. The Associate Manager serves as a leader in the lab to the animal care staff. This position supports researchers by ensuring staff are appropriately trained, and all are following local, state, and federal regulations. This position will collaborate with technical services, veterinarians and senior leadership involving the health and welfare of laboratory animals. In addition, this role will serve as a mentor and will assist with annual performance reviews and disciplinary actions for junior staff.

Requirements
- Responsible for providing leadership to ARF Supervisors and ensuring ARF staff schedules are completed according to task the management system. Tracking and coordinating compliance training for personnel and investigators.
- Creates standard operating procedures for staff and investigators to follow to remain compliant with local, state and federal regulations.
- Coordinates and tracks preventive maintenance on all equipment to ensure workflow is not interrupted by service. Removes and transfers depreciated equipment out of circulation when it is at end of life and reports the findings to yearly capital equipment list.
- Monitors and observes ARF supervisors ensuring daily tasks are completed and reported to ARF Senior Manger.
- Conducts routine assessment in coordination with the ARF manager(s) of all animal holding and support facilities to assure compliance with our AAALAC accreditation standards. Responsible for maintaining and assisting with allocation of cage space to investigators.
- Assists with writing annual performance reviews and executes disciplinary actions of subordinate staff with the assistance of the facility supervisor, manager, or senior manager and human resources business partner. Assists with ensuring proper staffing levels are maintained in all facilities on a daily basis.

- Bachelor of Science (BS) degree.
- Minimum of five years of experience working in an accredited laboratory animal facility.
- AALAS certification at the Laboratory Animal Technician (LATG) level.
- Working knowledge of laboratory animal facilities operations.
- Demonstrated ability to adapt and respond timely to the needs of faculty, research personnel and ARF staff to ensure that excellent customer service is provided at all times.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Professional leadership skills to: coach and influence employees; counsel, discipline and conduct yearly performance evaluations.
- Must be able to follow verbal and written instructions and exhibit interpersonal skills that are conducive to effective communication and that contribute to a congenial work environment.
- Maintain positive work atmosphere by behaving and communicating in a professional manner with clients, customers, coworkers, and supervisors
- Working knowledge of laboratory animal equipment and supplies, including cagewash, autoclave, and caging systems for a variety of common laboratory animals and personal protective equipment requirements for barrier and non-barrier facilities and various bio-safety levels.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- The position requires direct contact with a variety of laboratory animal species.
- Computer literacy in word processing and database record keeping in support of laboratory animal operations preferred.
