About the Location:Hybrid Position:
This position may be considered Hybrid based on PetSmart’s FlexSmart policy and business needs. A Hybrid work arrangement is considered to be a blend of onsite and remote work activity. Associates with a Hybrid work arrangement have a work space at Phoenix Home Office and can be required to come onsite between 1-5 days a week as determined by leadership and based on business needs.
About the Job:Working with the Leave of Absence & Accommodations team, the primary responsibility of this role is to provide intake, administration and distribution of all U.S., Canada and Puerto Rico leave of absence related transactions (ranging from simple to complex) and provide superior level customer service in a high volume, interactive environment. The position is also responsible for sending all required leave of absence paperwork, receiving, and interpreting medical certifications and sending appropriate designations per federal and state/provincial compliance requirements. This person will be responsible for maintaining data integrity in the Leave of Absence case management system.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
- Operates in a highly collaborative and cross-functional environment. Intakes calls and emails from all areas of the business regarding leave of absence related issues. Communicates effectively and professionally with all associates, including in stressful and emotional situations. Must understand and interpret all federal and state/provincial related language and apply it in a variety of situations.
- Administers, interprets, coordinates, and communicates leave of absence policies. Effectively provides education, advice, counsel and assistance to management and associates regarding federal and state/provincial laws and the PetSmart Leave of Absence Policy.
- Collects, reviews and maintains confidential medical information pertaining to the leave and/or accommodation request. Determines eligibility and duration under federal and state/provincial requirements by reviewing medical certification supplied by healthcare providers.
- Able to respond and assist with basic to moderately complex leave of absence questions/issues. Identifies and escalates accommodations and highly complex leave of absence cases to the appropriate team member for resolution. Leads communications with business partners and operators, including oral presentations and written communications.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, & SKILLS
- Associates Degree or equivalent combination of education and experience.
- One to three years of work experience in leave and benefits plan administration preferred.
- Possesses a knowledge of all state/federal leave entitlements, a general understanding of HR laws/practices including but not limited to FMLA, ADA, HIPAA, ERISA and a demonstrated understanding of Benefit plan design and policy.
- Dedicated to providing a high level of service with a sense of urgency in responding to requests.
- Influence – ability to lead by example and drive results through others.
- Ability to problem solve (analysis and resolution) as well as think strategically.
- Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills – both written and oral.
- Ability to organize and manage multiple priorities and incoming requests.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships at all levels, internally and externally.
- Must be able to work collaboratively in a team environment.
- Detail-oriented ability to research, gather, interpret and execute information related to HR topics such as disabilities, state/federal leave laws and recommended accommodations.
- Exceptional organization, planning, persuasion skills and teamwork. Attention to detail is extremely important in this position.
- Able to demonstrate an intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office applications (Outlook, Excel, Word, PowerPoint).
