INL is seeking an accomplished leader to serve as the next ALD of EEST who can articulate an inspiring vision and guide the directorate to achieve RDD outcomes of national and global significance. The ALD will deliver clean energy science and technologies to advance the mission of many DOE and other governmental offices, including the DOE Energy Efficiency and Renewable Energy Office (EERE), DOE Fossil Energy (FE), ARPA-E, NE, Department of Transportation (DOT), Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), Department of Agriculture (DOA), industry, and other stakeholders to represent INL's total institutional capabilities of nuclear energy, clean energy, and infrastructure protection. Additionally, the ALD partners with the INL Laboratory Director, the two Deputy Laboratory Directors, and the other four technical ALDs, namely Nuclear Science and Technology (NST), Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC), Advanced Test Reactor (ATR), and National Homeland Security (NHS), on strategy development and implementation. You will develop and maintain strategic partnerships with other national laboratories, universities, other national and international RDD organizations and private companies to advance the goals of the U.S. clean energy strategy.
The EEST directorate leads RDD for the clean energy technologies needed to advance the U.S. goals of reaching a net zero economy in 2050, built on the foundation of a reliable and resilient electric grid. More than 350 researchers and staff in the EEST directorate deliver advancements that address international and national challenges related to clean energy RDD. EEST also provides unique talent and collaborative integrated science and technology capabilities that support INL's nuclear and national and homeland security mission outcomes. EEST's research facilities include the Energy Technology Proving Ground, Dynamic Energy Transport and Integration Laboratory, Biomass Feedstock National User Facility, Battery Test Facility, Electrochemical Processing and Electrocatalysis Laboratory, Energy Innovation Laboratory, Power and Energy Real-Time Laboratory, and Water Security Test Bed plus capabilities in critical materials processing and separation and advanced manufacturing. EEST's annual budget authority for fiscal year 2023 exceeded $200M.

Key Responsibilities:
- Build Collaboration and PartnershipsBuild and strengthen partnerships and connections with DOE, national laboratories, technology end users, industry, universities, and government collaborators and regulators.
- Provide visible community and regional leadership, paying careful attention to local, State, and regional relationships and communications.
- Work in collaboration and partnership with other multifunctional scientific and mission areas across INL and with the laboratory senior leadership team.
- InspireProvide inspirational and strategic leadership for EEST programs' continued growth, impact, and maturity.
- Create and drive vision through leadership, exploration, confidence, and resolve.
- Drive EEST leadership in advancing the use of clean energy technologies.
- Manage the risks of leading a multidisciplinary, complex energy research and engineering institution by balancing responsible, safe operations and innovation.

Qualifications
Minimum Requirements:
- Minimum of 10 years of progressive leadership experience in a complex technical organization, balancing mission, operational requirements, and risk to deliver mission outcomes.
- Demonstrated experience working with or knowledge of clean energy technologies.
- Advanced degree: PhD in science or engineering required.
- Record of collaborations across the DOE system and with outside stakeholders.
- Record of successful interactions with DOE organizations and programs; an ability to obtain funding from federal agencies is ideal.
- Record of developing industrial relationships for advanced technology development and deployment; knowledge of industry and commercial practices in advanced research and industrial partnering ideal.
- This position requires the ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "Q" clearance, which requires US Citizenship.
Job Information:
- The full pay range is $350,000 - $450,000. At Idaho National Laboratory compensation decisions are determined using factors such as education, relevant experience, and other credentials.
