The Graduate School, Office of Graduate Education and Postdoctoral Affairs seeks a tenured faculty member who is familiar with trends and issues associated with graduate education nationally and internationally, is experienced in administrative work, has extensive experience working with graduate students academically and/or administratively, and has strong interest in working with students and key partner communities in departments and colleges across campus.Tenured faculty members with appointments at the Associate or Full Professor level are eligible for appointment. The Associate Dean of Graduate Student Affairs serves a three-year appointment with the option to renew, based on mutual agreement, and reports directly to the Dean of the Graduate School.The Graduate School fosters excellence across the University by providing programs, administrative structure, and leadership to ensure quality and integrity in graduate education. To this end, it is an outward-facing organization and a central partner across all academic and research units on campus in facilitating and promoting excellence in graduate research and educational experiences; administering efficient, effective policies and procedures; and fostering inclusive and interdisciplinary communities of graduate students, post-docs, faculty, and staff.The Graduate Schools functions can be found on the Graduate School website at www.gradschool@utah.edu.Responsibilities of the Associate Dean of Graduate Student Affairs shall include but are not limited to: Oversight, coordination and communication with students, faculty and professional advisors, Directors of Graduate Studies and Graduate Advisor communities. Building a portfolio of academic resources for students, Directors of Graduate Studies and Academic Advisors towards continuous improvement of graduate student success. Oversight of Graduate Records, including graduate student tracking. Other responsibilities as assigned by the Dean.Candidates must have a terminal degree with related research and teaching commensurate with an appointment as a tenured Associate or Full professor. Experience in supervising and mentoring graduate students is required. Applicants should have knowledge of Universities and procedures and the ability to work effectively and synergistically as part of a team supporting a variety of academic communities. In addition, applicants must be comfortable organizing and conducting meetings and speaking in front of groups. Previous success working on college-level or University-level committees and/or administration is preferred particularly as it relates to graduate education.
