Position Summary:
Oversees assigned areas of a YMCA branch, which may include membership, marketing, programs, and/or facilities. Participates in volunteer and staff development, financial development, community relations and collaborations with community agencies.
BRANCH SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES & DUTIES:
Under the direction of the Executive Director the Associate Executive Director is responsible on a daily basis for creating a transformative Y experience for our members, program participants, and employees at their branch as well as supporting branches within their operations group. The Associate Executive Director will develop, implement, and manage branch operating plans to promote Membership, Group Exercise, Aquatics, Childcare, Summer Camp and Youth Sports growth. Associate Executive Director is responsible for financial management that sustains the Ys nonprofit business model while maximizing growth potential. Serve as a branch leader that values and supports the many facets of philanthropy as an essential component in achieving the Ys mission.
The Associate Executive Director must be able to lead and manage people to execute exemplary customer service, high quality programs, clean, well-maintained facilities, and build lifelong connections. The Associate Executive Director must be or become a subject matter expert and innovator in the core programs of the Y including but not limited to membership, health and wellness, aquatics, sports, family programs and philanthropy.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Responsible for the operation of the Y location supporting the branch operating plan and strategic direction of the YMCA of Greater Long Beach.
The Associate Executive Director will create a transformative Y experience that builds loyal members, energizes employees and volunteers, inspires donors and stimulates growth and innovation.
The Associate Executive Director will drive success in the following areas of responsibility to support a strong Y experience:
- Customer Service and Experience Train, coach, model and hold staff accountable to exemplary service to members, program participants and their parents across all departments and programs. Respond immediately to net-promoter feedback and concerns.
- Membership and Program Enrollment, Growth and Experience - Drives membership and program enrollment and growth while ensuring a high-quality and transformative Y Experience as demonstrated by net-promoter scores and other experience metrics
- Fiscal management - Develops an annual budget according to association instructions and ensures successful execution to the plan. Works with all direct reports to identify growth opportunities, forecasting on a monthly basis, and correct financial deficiencies on a timely basis.
- Child Development Collaboratively work with the Childcare and Day Camp department leads to ensure a positive experience for children and parents participating in the programs. Create a strong working relationship between branch operations and child development.
- Innovation Leads design thinking practices to develop innovative solutions for their branch and association-wide opportunities and challenges. Works to master, demonstrate and coach others in design thinking.
- Board development and Fundraising Leads branch community fund raising portion of annual campaign, engaging staff and members to meet quarterly and annual goals. Supports strong board and volunteer leadership and participation. Engages in on-the-job experiences Executive Director to develop their board leadership and fundraising skills and expertise.
- Marketing and community engagement Represents and promotes Y membership and programs in the community and at events. Actively drives internal marketing efforts (i.e. activating staff for referral programs) and consistent social media engagement through branch channels.
- Performance Achievement - Ultimately accountable for the performance of their team. Directly responsible for hiring, coaching and managing all direct reports and ensuring compliance with association hiring practices for all positions within their organizational structure. Conducts regular meetings and connections with direct reports to ensure progress. Has an innate ability to work well with others and discuss career development.
- Establishes with the branch leadership team long range plans for the expansion of programs and services, in harmony with overall YMCA objectives.
- Provides staff support for assigned committees. Provides staff leadership for annual support campaign.
- Represents and promotes the YMCA in the local community and develops positive working relationships with other organizations, businesses, and governmental entities. Develops and maintains collaborative relationships with community agencies in service delivery area.
- Recruits, hires, trains, develops and directs employees and volunteers. Reviews and evaluates staff performance. Develops strategies to motivate staff and achieve goals.
- Develops, manages, and monitors assigned operating budgets to meet or exceed targets. Recommends adjustments to the budget to assure a balanced operation and submits reports on current operations.
- Develops and directs high quality member engagement strategies and programs which support branch and Association mission, goals, and strategies. May direct branch marketing and communication efforts.
- May ensure the maintenance of facilities and properties of the branch to assure high standards of maintenance, safety, cleanliness and to assure that the requirements of regulatory codes are fully met.
- Serves as a member of YMCA management and supports the overall objectives of the YMCA.

Qualifications:
1. Bachelor's degree in human services, recreation, business or a related field, or equivalent strongly preferred.
2. Five or more years of management experience, preferably in a YMCA or other not-for-profit agency.
3. Ability to direct assigned operations including volunteer development, supervision of staff, development and monitoring of budgets, marketing and public relations, and program development.
4. Prefer knowledge of and previous experience with, diverse populations.
5. Ability to establish and maintain collaborations with community organizations.
6. YMCA Team Leader or Multi-Team/Branch Leader certification preferred.
7. CPR and First Aid certifications may be required.
8. Clearance: Including Fingerprints and background clearance, with negative TB Test, health screening and negative drug test screening.
9. Complete all online required training(s).
Working Conditions:
Environmental Factors: Indoor and outdoor facilities (e.g. kitchen and recreational sites); exposure to heat, cold, potentially hazardous chemicals, toxic materials; work on slippery or uneven surfaces. Noise level is usually moderate.
