Organization/Position Overview:
The Global Facilities Delivery (GFD) Organization, part of Corporate Engineering, delivers new and renovated capital assets around the world. Our mission is accomplished through a highly leveraged organization of design, construction and qualification contractors. Many of the assets delivered focus on manufacturing medical innovations and delivering innovative solutions to patients. Some of the assets delivered will support an expansion in supply of existing medicines or making the supply chain more robust.
The Associate Director of Design & Verification manages a team of engineers that oversee the design and verification stages of a project, supporting Project Managers and broader project execution teams. This is a position that leads the engineers and is tasked with continuous improvement of the underlying work processes for design & verification.
Key Objectives/Deliverables
Administrative Leadership
- Lead a team that:
- Provides oversight of all design phases of the project and is responsible in delivering the conceptual design review and basic design review.
- Develops the project design requirements.
- Develops and maintains the design schedule.
- Interfaces with the selection and oversight of the Architectural / Engineering partners.
- Expedites design decisions and coordinates information flow between the design team and system owners.
- Ensures the design meets approved intent through interactions between the design firm, design specialists, engineering tech center disciplines, and end user/customer.
- Is accountable for the development of the Project Verification Plan, Traceability Matrix, and risk assessments (even if not necessary leading the execution).
- Ensures discrepancy tracking and management in the Verification phase.
- Supervise, coach, develop and engage the team. Complete performance reviews and development plans. These responsibilities include recruiting, resource planning, and succession planning.
- Manage a team with varying levels of knowledge in the group, which ranges from R1 to R4+ personnel. Use workshops, training, and mentoring to help early career engineers contribute to large projects.
Operational Excellence
- Demonstrate a commitment to environmental, health, and safety (including PSM). Emphasize good safety behaviors and lead-by-example.
- Develop/Improve project delivery work instructions and best practices related to design/verification and ensure they remain current with industry best practices.
- Resolve problems related to design, and distribute lessons as part of continuous improvement.
- Identify, track, and report key indicators of functional performance.
Compliance
- Identify subject matter experts and local representatives for Engineering Design Standards, and contribute to new/revised Standards.
- Oversee integration of key Quality and HSE requirements into the work group processes. Ensure training and knowledge of design personnel for these requirements.
Minimum Requirements:
- B.S. in Engineering or B.S. in related technical area with 5 years equivalent work experience
- Minimum of 5 years manufacturing and/or engineering in support of API, Parenteral, or Device Assembly & Packaging networks
Preferences:
- Capital project delivery experience
- Able to balance an understanding of Lilly’s business with the ability to work at a technically detailed level when needed.
- Have demonstrated good written and verbal communications skills.
- Ability to resolve personnel matters with tact and integrity
- Able to work in an environment where limited or conflicting direction is given.
- Able to organize information, develop a plan for profile development, and then execute the plan hitting agreed to target dates. Able to set own priorities. Ability to influence senior level decision-makers and stakeholders who have differing opinions.
Additional Information:
- This is not a remote position and will require on-site presence.
- Travel required 5-20%.
