About the Job
Our client is a global biopharmaceutical company pioneering innovative therapies to address some of the most challenging diseases. They have two approved medicines targeting C3 and nearly a dozen clinical and pre-clinical programs underway. The Associate Director, Technical Accounting and Controls will play a key role in managing technical accounting assessments, implementing new accounting standards, supporting SEC reporting, and leading internal controls assessments. Reporting to the Chief Accounting Officer and working closely with the Corporate Controller, this role will supervise outsourced internal audit and SOX consultants and coordinate with external auditors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage technical accounting for complex transactions (e.g., leases, stock compensation, revenue recognition, etc.) and prepare supporting documentation.
- Assess new accounting pronouncements, provide guidance, and implement standards as applicable.
- Evaluate and prepare disclosures for SEC filings (10-Q/10-K) and assist with tie-outs and reviews.
- Maintain and enhance the SOX compliance framework, ensuring effective execution and documentation of internal controls.
- Partner with process owners to address control gaps, design remediation plans, and improve the business controls environment.
- Oversee outsourced internal audit and SOX consultants, ensuring alignment with company objectives.
- Collaborate with IT to evaluate key financial systems and establish robust change management practices.
Qualifications:
- Education: Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field.
- CPA required.
- Experience: 8–10 years in public accounting or a mix of public accounting and industry roles, with experience in internal audit or technical accounting for a publicly traded company.
- Preferred: Life sciences experience, CISA or CIA certification, and working knowledge of SAP S4 Hana and Blackline.
