We are seeking a seasoned Permanent Associate Attorney with a specific focus on Oil and Gas to join our dynamic legal team. The ideal candidate will have an in-depth understanding of the oil and gas industry, coupled with exceptional legal acumen, and extensive experience drafting contracts. This role offers an exciting opportunity to be part of a collaborative team that provides comprehensive legal services to our clients in the oil and gas sector. The successful candidate will be responsible for providing effective and reliable legal advice on oil and gas matters, and will play a critical role in shaping our company's legal strategy.
Responsibilities:
1. Provide legal counsel and support to the oil and gas business units, including advising on a wide range of legal matters related to exploration, production, transportation, and marketing.
2. Draft, review, and negotiate a variety of contracts and agreements related to oil and gas operations, including leases, joint operating agreements, farm-out agreements, and purchase and sale agreements.
3. Represent the company in disputes and litigation related to oil and gas matters.
4. Assist in the development and implementation of legal strategies and policies related to the oil and gas business.
5. Provide legal advice on regulatory compliance issues, including environmental regulations, in the oil and gas industry.
6. Work closely with other departments to ensure that business activities are conducted in compliance with applicable laws and regulations.
7. Stay informed about changes in laws and regulations that may affect the company's oil and gas operations and provide legal updates to the management team.
Qualifications:
1. Juris Doctor (JD) degree from an accredited law school.
2. Admission to the bar and in good standing in the state of practice.
3. A minimum of 5 years of experience as an attorney, preferably in the oil and gas industry or a related field.
4. Proven experience in drafting and negotiating oil and gas contracts.
5. Comprehensive knowledge of laws and regulations related to the oil and gas industry.
6. Exceptional legal research and writing skills.
7. Strong negotiation and conflict resolution skills.
8. Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
9. Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
10. Proficiency in legal research tools and software.
11. Experience working in West Texas and New Mexico is highly desirable.
