Position Overview:
We are seeking an Associate Attorney with 2-4 years of experience in collections and bankruptcy law to join our Community Association practice group. The position focuses on supporting homeowners associations (HOAs) and community association clients by handling general collections and compliance cases. This role requires licensure to practice law in Maryland, with Virginia and District of Columbia licenses considered a strong advantage.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a caseload of 250-400 active collection cases, handling all stages from initial intake to file closure.
- Collaborate closely with paralegals, administrative staff, and Shareholders on case management.
- Review and interpret client documents, drafting legal opinions for Shareholder review.
- Conduct regular court appearances across multiple jurisdictions to represent clients in abatement cases for covenant enforcement.
- Communicate regularly with community association clients and their management agents, providing routine status updates and legal guidance.
- Handle billing of hourly and task-coded fixed fee collections.
- Attend on-site meetings with client community associations to oversee elections and Board meetings as needed.
Qualifications:
- Education: JD from an accredited law school.
- Licensure: Licensed to practice law in Maryland; Virginia and D.C. licensure preferred.
- Experience: 2-4 years in collections, specifically handling cases for banks or other creditors.
- Legal Expertise: Knowledge of the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act, district court procedures, and post-judgment enforcement.
- Skills: Strong analytical, research, and communication skills with meticulous attention to detail.
- Additional Experience: Legal project management experience and experience supervising paralegals and staff preferred.
