Job Summary:
You will represent families and children to ensure they receive an appropriate education. This rewarding position provides an opportunity to advocate on behalf of individuals and families who require special education and related services from their school system. The practice involves interpreting and applying state and federal statutes and administrative regulations. Day-to-day activities include but are not limited to meeting and advising new clients, reviewing and evaluating educational and related records, developing and implementing legal strategy, attending IEP, disciplinary, and other education-related meetings, and assuming pretrial and litigation responsibilities.
Duties/Responsibilities:
- Represent parents, guardians, and students in school-based Individualized Education Plan (“IEP”) meetings, special education due process hearings, and disciplinary hearings.
- Review and analyze large and detailed educational records to develop legal theories and claims.
- Write persuasive and organized comprehensive administrative and court complaints, motions, and briefs
- Be well-versed in Maryland and federal education and disability law
- Work closely and collaborate with educational consultants, experts, and health professionals
- Drafting, reviewing, and negotiating agreements
- Work with clients and experts regarding discovery, trial preparation, and other case-related work
- Maintain legal billing daily
- Collaborate in and utilize online legal billing, case management, and office suite programs
Supervisory Responsibilities:
. M ay oversee a legal assistant or paralegal as assigned based on tenure, position, and volume of work.
Required Skills/Abilities:
· Associate will be expected to represent parents/guardians at school IEP meetings, which requires strong advocacy, mediation, problem-solving skills, and attention to detail.

· Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and industry-related case and litigation software.
Education and Experience:
Legal degree from an accredited law school
Attorney with 2-5 years experience in practicing law
Admitted to Maryland or another U.S. State Bar (Required)
Experience in Special Education, Medical Malpractice or related areas of law preferred.
Physical Requirements:
Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer.
Able to appear in person at court, administrative forums, and schools.
