Midwest Veterinary Supply is seeking an Assistant WarehouseManager for our Birmingham, Alabama Branch.
Job Summary:
The primary objective of the Assistant Warehouse Manager is to ensure that customer service levels are high by minimizing shipping/receiving errors and making sure that orders are fulfilled within shipping cutoffs. The objective will be met by providing the training, directives, and motivation to all positions within the Pulling, Shipping, and Receiving departments so that they function at maximum efficiency and represent the Company as it relates to corporate policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
- Serve as a supervisor for the Pulling, Shipping, and Receiving departments. Provide the tools, directive, and motivation necessary for employees to perform at maximum efficiency, but also be available to perform any of the warehouse functions on an as needed basis.
- Ensure timely resolutions of outstanding warehouse tasks including order waves, replenishments, cycle counts, receipts, put-aways, and immediate needs.
- Perform supervisory functions including recruitment, employee training, employee scheduling, performance evaluations, progressive discipline, and employee problem resolution. Work with Branch and Warehouse Managers on all hiring and termination decisions.
- Provide training of new staff and ongoing training of existing staff for their relevant work duties regarding policy and procedure updates or revisions.
- Ensure compliance of safety policies and procedures.
- Answer questions related to products, policies, and procedures. Assist in the resolution of problems that may arise related to order processing and managing inventory control.
- Utilize records of employee errors to provide re-training and guidance in order to reduce error frequency.
- Work with Branch, Warehouse Managers and Human Resources department on employee matters to include payroll/timekeeping, hiring, disciplinary action, terminations, and employee benefits.
- Perform other duties as assigned.
Supervisory Responsibilities:
The Assistant Warehouse Manager supervises Production Supervisors, Team Leaders, Pullers, Shipping Clerks, Receiving Clerks, and Delivery Drivers.

Job Requirements & Qualifications:
- Must be able to perform each essential function satisfactorily
- A high school diploma or equivalent (GED) is required
- Specialized warehouse management training of at least two years is preferred
- A minimum of two years of experience as a supervisor within a distribution setting is preferred
- A minimum of two years of experience within the veterinary industry is preferred
- Must have a valid Driver’s License
- Forklift certified or ability to become forklift certified required
- Ability to read, write and speak English
- Ability to read and interpret documents such as safety rules, operating instructions, and procedural manuals
- Ability to perform general building maintenance
- Basic computer skills, ability to operate a Windows-based computer and data entry
- Ability to differentiate details related to product codes and descriptions (such as verifying a string of numbers)
- Ability to add, subtract, multiply and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio and percentages.
- Good listening and verbal communication skills to include the ability to demonstrate diplomacy and professionalism
- Strong organizational skills
- Ability to manage, delegate to, and lead employees to ensure ultimate performance levels
- Ability to work well with others and independently
- The ability to make quick decisions based on sound business logic

Equipment Used:
Windows based computer, tape gun, safety knife, 2-way radio, safety equipment, markers, label equipment, packaging materials, ladders, box cutter, forklift, pallet jack, safety inspected vehicle, hand cart.
Work Environment:
Work will be performed indoors in a relatively temperature-controlled climate where moderate heat, cold or humidity may be experienced. Moderate exposure to dust and dirt may also be expected. Occasional travel may be required. May require handling of products with cautious warning labels. This is a safety sensitive position.
