POSITION SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Center Director, the Assistant Teacher will plan, organize,conduct and deliver a quality age-appropriate program for children. The Assistant Teacher will work as part of the Early Childhood Team to deliver world-class customer service and relationship building skills to create a welcoming environment at the YMCA. The incumbent will also exhibit the core values of caring, honesty, respect and responsibility in all aspects of their work with the YMCA.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Accountable for children in care and operating within the YMCA and state guidelines
May be responsible for opening the center, closing classroom; occasionally oversee classroom for the first two hours of center operation and one hour during nap time
Maintain Center in clean and hazard free state; proactively clean and/or repair areas
Present self as a positive role model, maintain neat and clean appearance
Attend scheduled staff meetings and training
Report on suspected child abuse situations to the Director
Assist in other classrooms as necessary
Maintain classroom records regarding accidents, medications and attendance
Actively participate in children's activities which promote the Center's goals and objectives
Be knowledgeable and supportive of the YMCA annual support campaign, and general procedures and policies, including personnel guidelines, facility access procedures, membership policies, and emergency plans
WORK ENVIRONMENT & PHYSICAL DEMANDS
Employee will frequently be required to stand, walk, sit, use hands to finger to handle or feel objects, tools, controls, reach with hands and arms, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crouch, crawl, talk, hear and taste and smell
Occasionally exposed to wet and humid conditions, outdoor weather conditions
Required to lift 10-50 pounds
Specific vision abilities are required including accurate sight up close, distant, peripheral and focus
Noise level in the work environment is moderate to high
QUALIFICATIONS:
Qualified according to State guidelines
Certified in first aid and CPR
Familiar with quality standards and State Guidelines
Knowledgeable in High/Scope and COR Curriculum
Knowledgeable in Qualistar and licensing standards
