Position Summary
Indiana Packers Corporation (IPC) is seeking an Assistant Superintendent Wastewater Treatment at our Delphi facility to lead our Wastewater team. Reporting directly to the Corporate Director of Utilities, Safety & Regulatory Compliance, the Assistant Superintendent of Wastewater Treatment oversees the operation, maintenance, and preventive maintenance of IPC's wastewater treatment systems and equipment. This role includes supervising, training, and coordinating wastewater operators, managing processed effluent and solids disposal to rendering or off-site facilities, and ensuring compliance with state, federal, and local permits and regulations.
This position will take responsibility for ensuring training effectiveness through our wastewater areas of the plant to support targets while maintaining compliance with good manufacturing processes (GMP's) and workplace safety expectations.
Core Responsibilities:
- Safety Leadership: Drive a culture of process safety excellence with a strong emphasis on incident and accident prevention.
- Operations Management: Ensure safe, efficient plant operations by training, supervising, and assigning tasks to wastewater operators.
- Operator Training: Supervise and document operator training progress and maintain accurate records.
- Record Maintenance: Manage and maintain all operational, maintenance, and compliance records.
- Compliance: Ensure adherence to IDEM, EPA, and local POTW regulations.
- Flow Adjustments: Regularly inspect operations, adjusting flows to accommodate loading changes.
- Equipment Management: Propose modifications or changes to equipment as necessary for optimal performance.
- Calibration and Sampling: Ensure timely calibration of meters and coordinate laboratory analysis through proper sample collection.
- Procedure Development: Develop SOPs for training, safety, routine operations, and emergency responses.
- Cross-Department Coordination: Collaborate with Engineering and contractors impacting wastewater or stormwater operations.
- Capital Projects: Identify and propose potential capital expenditure projects.
- Staffing and Onboarding: participate in interviews and manage maintain records in alignment with company policies.
- Issue Reporting: Notify Superintendent/Director promptly of any operational issues, malfunctions, or performance concerns.
- Regulatory Communication: Log all external regulatory communications, including calls, emails, and texts.
- Utilize problem solving techniques, teamwork building strategies and process control tools to meet or exceed the production schedule.
- Facilitate workflow management, workforce scheduling, and placement to ensure the facility and company goals are successfully met.
- Maintain team member compliance of company policies, safety and quality standards, and good housekeeping through the application of fair and consistent accountability methods.
Requirements
- High school diploma or GED required.
- 5-7 years' experience operating or maintaining wastewater equipment, including supervisory experience.
- Ability to obtain and maintain Class A, B, C, or D wastewater certification.
- All employees are expected to adhere to their scheduled working hours and attend work consistently to ensure smooth operations and effective teamwork.
- Strong computer skills and experience with Microsoft office products along with the ability to learn and utilize enterprise software and database reporting tools.
- Ability to work independently and identify solutions with very little supervision.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to read, write and speak English to communicate effectively with supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to multi-task in a fast-paced environment and resourceful in accomplishing tasks and deadlines.
Work Environment:
While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to a variety of extreme conditions on the site including exposure to fumes or airborne particles, moving mechanical parts and vibration. The noise level in the work environment can be loud and hearing protection is required. The position regularly works near moving mechanical parts and in cold, hot, and outdoor conditions that include inclement weather, heat and humidity, and exposure to dust.

The position lifts heavy objects, walks and stands for long periods of time under adverse field conditions. The employee lifts, pushes, pulls, or carries objects; uses abdominal and lower back muscles to provide support without fatigue. The position requires good manual dexterity (hand, hand with arms and fingers, two hands) and multi-limb coordination. The position requires the ability to quickly move arms and legs. The employee must have excellent stamina and vision.
