PURPOSE OF JOB:To provide leadership for academic support services to raise student achievement, close the achievement gap and meet state and federal reporting guidelines. This position drives the educational performance of KCPS, providing leadership, vision, and strategic direction for the KCPS curriculum, instruction and school improvement initiatives, including the Missouri School Improvement Plan.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: include the following
- Builds and supports a high performance educational team - inspiring, integrating and aligning the academic work of the KCPS. Develops and maintains clear and inclusive decision-making processes to ensure integration of academic supports and services. Supervises a team that includes directors of curriculum and instruction and special programs.
- Identifies and implements effective curriculum, instruction, and assessment policies and practices that maximize educational options and lead to improved achievement for all students. Balances educational consistency with appropriate autonomy at schools, fosters best practice sharing and opportunities for collaboration at all levels.
- Provides the required supports and fosters a culture that motivates teachers and administrators to perform at the level of excellence necessary to improve student achievement and narrow the achievement gap between racial, ethnic, and economic groups.
- Supports KCPS and school leaders to design and implement school improvement plans that employ instructional visions and practical strategies to improve student achievement.
- Sets priorities and measurable goals and effectively manages KCPS resources to support priorities and goal achievement.
- Oversees the development of partnerships with leading educational and community organizations both locally and nationally to support, complement and enhance KCPS programs. Communicates effectively with internal and external stakeholders.
- Develops and implement standards based academic program where student performance and instructional practices are driven by a comprehensive analysis of student performance data/outcomes.
- Contributes to the successful achievement of full school KCPS accreditation.
- Accomplishes all goals and objectives as outlined in the Missouri School Improvement Plan (MSIP) where applicable to the specific area of duty.
- Works closely with KCPS administrators to ensure that all functions of the department support efforts to serve the needs of the students.
- Serves as part of the leadership team to guide development, and regular updating, of strategic plans at the district, school and department level.
- Provides management and direction to ensure that accurate information required for decision-making is available to facilitate informed planning.
- Provides support and guidance in the planning process for new programs or initiatives, and in the establishment of measurable goals and outcomes.
- Prepares annual budgets, monitors expenditures, and adheres to district policies and procedures.
- Responsible for the management of Special Education instructional support staff, network managers, CTE Director, Lead reading interventionist
- Regularly collaborates with all Directors of Special Populations (ELL, Special Education, Early Childhood)
- Responsible for overseeing the planning and execution of summer school programming
- Ensures quality professional development is available for instructional employees at every level (coordinators, teachers, teacher assistants/aides, etc.)
- Familiar with digital application of the curriculum and ways to integrate digital support into curriculum
- Regularly evaluates the viability of the curriculum document and makes recommendations for continued improvement
- Presents regularly at Board meetings on the status of curriculum and instruction

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:
- Master’s degree in an education discipline.
- Hold or eligible to hold appropriate Missouri license.
- Ten or more years of progressive education administrative experience including school (preferably at two levels) and district leadership experience at an executive level.
- Thorough knowledge of curriculum design as demonstrated through past experience
- Demonstrated success leading strategic educational initiatives that result in measurable improved student achievement.
- Demonstrated ability to lead the design, implementation and management of large scale systems.
- Demonstrated knowledge of research based current curriculum, instruction, assessment and staff development best practices.
- Demonstrated success leading school improvement initiatives that close student achievement gaps between racial, ethnic, and economic groups.
- Demonstrated success designing, organizing and leading a systemic change process in a large, complex, diverse organization.
- Demonstrated ability to effectively manage limited resources to support strategic organizational goal attainment.
- Effective communication, interpersonal, and team building skills.
- Effective organizational skills with demonstrated ability to manage multiple complex roles and responsibilities.
- Demonstrated experience in developing performance appraisal and management instruments.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:
Length of work year: 12 months (7.5hours per day 5 days/week)
