DAY IN THE LIFE OF AN ASSISTANT SERVICE TECHNICIAN
The day begins with you helping the tech identify and load the service van with the parts needed for all the jobs scheduled by the service coordinator for that day. Upon arrival at the job site, you will be expected to follow the direction of the tech and anticipate the tools needed to complete the job safely and efficiently and to clean up the site upon completion. All jobsite garbage will be taken back to the warehouse and disposed of in the appropriate dumpsters. The service van will be cleaned and organized to prepare for the next day. The remainder of the day will consist of working on the computer to manage your emails, update job status in our "Vinyl" software program, and process service worksheets provided by the tech.
Position Requirements:
The incumbent must be flexible and adaptable to changes that rapidly occur. Being able to follow directions is critical to helping in the repair of various millwork. Must be able to communicate clearly and concisely both verbally and in writing with internal/external customers as well as vendors and vendor representatives. A familiarity with hand tools and how to use them is required in understanding how to repair doors and windows. Must be able to climb a ladder and work safely in high areas. Computer skills are required to look-up and order parts, enter information into proprietary software, as well as write and respond to email. Must be able to lift and carry heavy and/or bulky parts.
Duties Include:
- Load and unload service vans.
- Organize parts in storage areas and service vans and keep the entire shop area neat and clean.
- Communicate with vendors to order parts.
- Communicate with coworkers.
- Help customers understand the work to be performed and contact customers with job status.
- Clean job site before, during, and after scheduled work.
- Consult with the technicians to look for other ways to complete tasks.
- Help build "hide-a-ways" and repair millwork in the warehouse.
- Update jobs in the Vinyl system.
- Continuously self-educate and take classes to become a Service Technician
